Text message notification on phone not going away

When I get a text message and read or reply on the watch the notification on the phone doesn't dismiss.
Phone - GS6 Edgae
Messaging apps I've tried
Samsung stock messaging app
Google messenger
Verizon messages+

Do you have Light Flow installed on your phone? Some users have reported problems with notifications not clearing...
