Text messages dont wake screen

Is there a way to wake the screen when you receive a text with the stock messaging app? Kind of a pain to not be able to glance and see what it is or who its from. Thanks

Try SMS WakeUp. There are similar apps available on Google Play as well.

Mine doesn't either (Verizon) and it was annoyed me.

Here in the UK on 3 network text messages received wake screen as well.
