Okay so i been getting a lot of text messages today from buddies with Thunderbolts. They have been telling me to factory reset my Thunderbolt because it fixes the phone with some new software or whatever. Called Verizon asked them they also told me to do it even if i'm not having problems it will fix the battery. Also seeing a lot of post on the forums about this too. So should i do this does it work? suppose to fix a 3g problem i been having lately also. So how do i do this factory reset? have you done it? did it work? let me know thanks :)

i have not done it. i have no battery issues. Moderate to heavy user, phone lasts most of the day.

I would try a standard reboot first. My TB rebooted itself last night and I believe that was the software update that they are referring to. I did not do a factory reset, but my battery is at least twice as good today as it has ever been. Rebooted it again this am around 8:30, current stats are 45% left uptime 12:32 awake time 3:41. Wifi on all day, I did not make any changes to the radios.

I need to see some actual proof of this aside from rumors. Most VZ employees (no offense to those here) are not of high intelligence imo.

This forum sensors out r-e-t-a-r-d? That's hilarious.

yeah mine rebooted last night as well. My dad's did not. is there any info on what they updated?

Well, I have 5% now (9:40) and I woke up at 6:00 and took it off the charger with 15 hours of up time but only 2 hour and 5 minutes of actual awake time. I did bump charge it once this morning though.

Well it would be helpful if you guys that DID have a reboot to post your software version. Press menu/settings/about phone/software informarion and look at the software version. Not sure if i had a reboot but im sitting at 1.12.605.6

Thanks!!

Same, but it did reboot last night.

That is the rev. on mine as well. Two things I neglected to mention earlier, I have not rooted yet and after the reboot the time off charger had been reset as if I had just unplugged it. updated stats 41% left, uptime 13:40 awake time 4:10

ok, stupid question perhaps... but how do you do this "reboot" (hard reboot??) that everyone is talking about? I have drained the battery until the phone died, if that counts for anything.....

okay guys GREAT NEWS! i did the hard reset and before i did this i had horrid connection at my place. i just got back home and well i have 3 bars instead of zero bars now with steady 3g connection which is fantastic i thought it was not gonna work lol :)

Nope no Software changes that i noticed. Not sure what the factory reset did but i am getting way better signal in my apartment. And that is the main reason i switched to Verizon From sprint's EVO is for the So called Great signals! well when i brought the phone home i thought oh well that was another Sales pitch its not true i am getting worse than sprint. but since i did this it helped a lot. Should you do it?? no not if you don't have problems. I did it for testing purposes to see if it really worked. But hey make sure if you do it backup all you're contacts i forgot to do that and well i lost all my numbers lol

Dave, all your contacts should have been synched to Google's server and synched back up to your phone upon putting your gmail acct info in.

Google this:

Google contacts
Sign in with your gmail info

All your contacts should show there.

If so just perform a sync and they should reappear. That would be in settings/accounts/pick ur gmail account then hit menu, sync now..

Okay just did it, Seen all my contacts but it does not have the recent ones i have added like two days ago?? is there a way you can manually backup your contacts? or does it just do it by itself if so is there a way to make the sync times faster?

There are apps to backup contacts but Google sync should do it almost immediately after adding a contact or calendar event. In the settings/accounts area do you have auto sync and background data checked? As far as I know there is no way to adjust the sync because as I said it should be immediate.

Also Dave, if you Google verizon backup assistant and log in there , there's a chance those new contacts may have backed up there. You could always copy and paste them into your Google account orvrun a backup assistant sync if they are in there and they should dump back into the phone.

As I learned when you add a new contact it gives you a drop down menu that says at the very top: Contact type> Phone/Google/SIM

if you saved the new contact as Phone it will not sync to google. you need to save your new contacts under google (option #2) for them to be saved and synced to google. (no there is no way to edit this selection after you create the contact... I tried)

Well it's not as easy as just changing the drop-down from Phone to Google but there IS a roundabout way:

People -> menu -> import/export -> export to SD card -> Phone -> OK

This saves all Phone contacts to a .vcf, then:

People -> menu -> import/export -> import from SD card -> Google
