Text Messaging - Have To Use Samsung Messaging App?

Hey there...I have a Band 2 and it works well with Android but I am trying out a Gear S2 to see if I like it.

One of the first things I tried was messaging and it said I had to change default messages app to the Samsung version on my phone. Is this the only option for messaging with the Gear 2?

I'm using Textra with my Gear S2 and it works well.

I think unless you are using the Samsung text app on your Samsung phone, you will not have the text thread app on your S2, only be able to reply to teext Notifications on the S2. Works well enough for that, but after replying, you won't be able to access the texts on a non Samsung phone, unless you get another text from the person.

Thanks for the tips...I am not picky on what text messaging app I use. Was using Google Messages...Samsung Messages is good, plus it does have number counter on unread texts too.

Do you mean receiving the picture on your watch? I don't think that is supported. You are just going to get a message saying you got a picture.

I am using Textra w/AT&T ... it worked on my LG G3 and now on my Nexus 6P. Did you make sure you have notifications for Textra turned on in the Gear app?

Just a follow up on my orginal question. I can't see picture messages on the watch with textra. I have to make my messages app default on my phone to see it. Like someone else said you can't see messages coming to you in a thread if you don't use the messages app as default. But you can read, initiate and reply to text messages using textra.
