text messaging issue

its so weird, i was getting notifications before and now i can still receive the text but i am never alerted! has this problem happened to anyone else? i have soft booted several times and still end up with the same issue. I have all the right settings checked off in the settings menu for messages but still dont get any alerts to when i get a new message. can someone please help!!??
