text messaging question for Droid Eris

Is there a way to add a signature? I had the enV before, and used a signature, but cannot find a feature on the Droid that will allow it. I tried using Handcent, but had some problems with it. One was that it always showed there was 1 message on my main screen, even though I had already read the message, and two was that having two text messaging programs going posed a problem. Is there a way to delete the program that comes with the phone and just use Handcent?

Also.....when I get text messages, I've noticed that I do not get pics unless I have the 3G activated. Is this the norm? Also, when I get jokes sometimes that have a pic and music, it comes separately (meaning that I have to look at the pic, then listen to the music - not having it all at once like I did on the enV). Is that the norm also?
And one more thing.....if someone sends me a text with a smiley face/sad face etc., I get the message that said the media had been removed. WTH?

I'm LOVIN' the Droid, but the text part....not so much.

well from what i know theres no way to delete the default messaging app but you could just stot getting notifications

Well, i'm not sure on all of your problems/questions but I can tell you that yes, you do need 3G on to view downloadable stuff such as pics and audio. And the "Preceding message modified, media objects removed" message is what you get when someone sends you a message over 160 chars. I believe.

I use handcent with no issues like you describe. Did you go into the stock sms app and disable notifications from that specific app in the settings?

Mms requires 3G coverage, as already stated.

As for the smileys, standard sms protocols support limited characters. So if they send you unsupported characters, you get that message. Also, if they go over 160 it'll be sent as more than one message, that'll also prompt that weird alert message.
