text msg sounds

im trying to load a text msg sound, but it appears that your only limited to the stock sounds in the message settings

I can't remember all the formats they can be but just drop those in your notification folder. That's where it looks for them.

had to download file manager to move the tones over from sd card to notification folder on phone....seems dumb and a big step backwards at this point

But that's the best way to do it. Have text, notifications, and ringtones on the phone instead of on the sd card. Cause sometimes, when removing the sd card, it can break the link and all of a sudden, your stuff is reset to default.
