Text notifications lag

I have a Samsung 46mm smartwatch with LTE and I get a lag when a text or other comes in. Is there a way to reduce this? I'm pretty sure I'm connected to Bluetooth when this occurs.

How much of a lag? There is a brief lag but I think it's unavoidable since it's a phone to watch transfer.

It all depends. Once yesterday it was a 2-3 hour lag. Someone sent me a text at 8 a.m. and I got it at 11 a.m.. Other instances I would receive the text on my phone and then about 20 seconds later it would appear on my watch. I also had the Always on Display on as well if that had anything to do with it. I also had the Pulse SMS app installed as well as the Pulse SMS notifications enabled.
