Anyone have this issue? Lately I have to turn wifi off to download any pics texted to me. Weird.

I have an unlocked N10+ that I flashed ATT software. My phone worked OK from when I got it until sometime in Oct. Many others have this problem. Happens when wifi Calling is turned on. Disable it & images download. I tried many different text apps too. Spent over an hour with att tech help on Nov. 14,they did something in the backend & it worked for a day.
A couple of days ago, I flashed the Android 10 firmware (no UserData & for the first time, no Home_CSC file), got the December security patch too. Also noticed that the ATT software updated. I now can download images when wifi & wifi calling is enabled (or wifi only enabled)! I'm guessing that when I flashed older firmware, I wasn't getting att software updates.. Maybe because I always used the Home_CSC file?? . I'm not sure. Just happy it's finally working. Same exact thing happened with my husband's new unlocked S10e. Once I flashed Android 10, images are downloading again. I'll post a picture of the ATT software too.

This kind of issue seems to occur more commonlly on AT&T if you have wi-fi calling on. Not sure if there's a definitive solution for it yet.

Yeah b.diddy correct about Att having that issue. But I believe bassplayerguy has international version if I'm correct.

Yeah, it's plagued me (on AT&T) for years. It will tell me an mms failed (forget the wording). Then I turn off wi-fi and a minute later the mms comes through. Seems to be improved by option to have Mobile data always active (under developer options).

I had never had it happen to me before but until recently, I've always owned an ATT branded phone. Only happened with my unlocked models and not even initially on my N10+.
Have you always been using an Unlocked model when this happens?

Nope. S7, S8, N9, and N10 all AT&T phones.

I actually have the ATT version. My wife has the unlocked Star Wars version. I will try turning on wifi calling. Thanks for the suggestions.

Are you on the same att software that I posted above?
It's definitely an ATT backend issue. Many complaints on the att forums too. The fact that they fixed it for a day for me, means they know what the problem is. I live in a rural area & att service is not that good. Maybe something to do with the cell towers in your location?

I flashed this software noted below in my N10+. After flashing then the auto reboot (but before ATT splash screen) the phone was in an updating mode (I'm guessing all of the stock functionality updating) but the ATT software also got updated. With this firmware, I did not flash an ATT UserData file or a Home_CSC file. I flashed the other CSC file in this post & surprisingly my phone did not do any restore. All of my apps & data were still intact & I can download images in my text apps with WiFi Calling ENABLED (wasn't working before the flash). I can still download images in my text apps when wifi calling is Off & wifi itself still on.

Very back end.

Not at the tower, farther back than that. MMS is mobile data. WiFi calling should simulate that at the server. That's where the problem is. (It probably means a lot of updates to a lot of servers, since I'm sure they use a distributed network. [And it may also require manually "throwing some switches" or the equivalent - at the physical location of each server.])

Well crap! I must have jinxed myself after I wrote my post here 2 days ago. Right after, a friend, a Verizon iPhone User sent me 2 photos, one right after the other. I am using the Google Android Message text app (but doesn't matter which text app) and I see a circle with a download arrow. I click on it and it just spins forever as if I'm trying to download a 2GB file over dial-up! Never comes in. I have Wifi Enabled and I also have Wifi Calling enabled on my Unlocked N10+ with AT&T firmware flashed. Android 10.
So now, the text apps won't automatically download images (again. Before when this happened, the images would come in if I left Wifi Calling Disabled. Now, I can have Wifi Calling enabled but have to DISABLE Wifi itself and the images will automatically download and I get an immediate text notification.
WTH ATT?!?!
This does not happen with another android phone user, only happens when an iPhone User sends an image.

Maybe it's some AT&T VooDoo! Wish they'd get their software act together.

Update: I enabled "Mobile Data Always On" in the developer options & had a friend text me a large image. It downloaded automatically and I still have Wifi & Wifi Calling Enabled. I know that we shouldn't have to do this but it worked for me.

Two AT&T Samsungs in past 3 years. Both had this problem. I would receive a text from 1 particular friend or my daughter with a photo. Gray box only. Online I found a suggestion to disable wifi. Upon disabling, the photo would continue downloading.

A day or so ago I ran across this suggestion. So far it works. Thank you.

Note: In the interim I went with the Google msg app. Works great as is but their newer icon is extremely vision unfriendly imo.

Thanks
