I was getting texts delayed up to a day. I cleared cache to all of the messenging apps and nothing.

I finally found that the message app was in the optimized app list. I removed it along with others i use often. You can do this by following this below :

Try going to Settings -> Battery -> [menu] -> Battery optimization -> All apps -> and disable optimization for messages app (or any other apps that seem to be a concern)

I am posting this to hope it helps someone one day

Thanks for the tip! How long have you tested it out after changing that setting? I ask because there are other reports of missed texts on the S8 as well as the Pixel, which I don't think are related to battery optimization.

I'm on Verizon and don't have the option to add Messages to the disable optimization list. In fact it's not even called battery optimization on my phone.

Not long, but seemed to only affect group text so not sure if this was the cause or not. I tried just about everything except for a total wipe/reset to factory settings (which i didnt want to do).

Great,If this hidden feature in battery happens to helps someone.

It's there. Settings>device maintenance>battery>battery usage>3 dots>optimize battery usage

Thanks for the info, I wasn't finding it with previous path mentioned. BUT, the message service is grayed out anyway, by default, so no way to have it sleep or be "optimized" on my Verizon phone.
