Have you noticed that the 16 gig version of Galaxy Tab 10.1 is priced at $499, just as the Flyer and aren't you pleased to know that Apple and all of the IPad users who bought into Apple's over priced device, helped establish the $499 buy in point for the Android tablet market? Fortunately there is competition in the Android market so we can look for better pricing in the future, unlike for the IPad users. I welcome comments.

I'm not sure Apple is that overpriced. Remember the original Motorola Xoom was $800. The WiFi model still starts at $600, though it does have 32gigs.

The Flyer, Galaxy Tab, and yes even the iPad are premium devices that cost a lot because of their build quality. This summer we'll see a lot of cheaper android tablets from tbe likes of Viewsonic and Amazon, but I doubt they'll have phenomenal materials and build quality.

I think it's great through that everyone will be able to afford a tablet. The cheaper ones would be ideal too if you treat it like a disposable computer and get a new one every year.

I agree that quality will always be a factor, but your comment on "get a new one every year" prompts me to ask you the same question that I have asked myself. How long do you anticipate using your Flyer, before upgrading or replacing?

I'm really not sure -- they're so new.

On laptops, I usually buy a high-end Thinkpad every 4 years or so. On cell phones, it's every year or two since the G1, because I like to have the latest stuff. (G1, Nexus One, G2)

I'm betting tablets will fall somewhere in between. 2 or 3 years. I'll upgrade when the Flyer just seems painful.

And you? When will you upgrade your Flyer?

I honestly don't find the price of tablets too outrageous to be honest though, when you compare them to the full price of a smatphone. For example, I paid full retail for my Inc2 at $440...the Flyer being $500 is reasonable because I am getting more with it, so I expect to pay a little bit more for it.

I dunno *shrug*

could be worse, if apple set the ipad base price to $899 the fan boy still would have bought it.
