I want to try the Ineffabilis Deus v1.2 (8/27/12) Sense3.6/global/tweaks/4.03.605.2. I get to the page to load it but it is a little confusing. It takes me to optimum installer and even though(I think I'm not installing a bunch of other garbage) it loads a bunch of stuff I don't want plus I can't seem to find the file. Maybe is there another link, or could you guide me in the right direction.
Thanks

If it has an installer, then you just have to read the directions in the installer and from the dev in the thread. There is not much you can do about it installing things you don't want unless there are options in the installer.

The reason there isn't a guide to roming is because many ROMs are different. You really just have to read the dev instructions. The only guaranteed thing is that it will flash in recovery lol

ok thanks, I'll go through it again and try and find the stuff it loads and erase it later

Ineffabilis is a great ROM and Chingy is a very good dev but if it's a slick ROM your looking for you should upgrade to the latest firmware (if you haven't already) and flash the Venom ROM. It is butter smooth for Sense 4.0 and has a Delta Burke sized pant load of tweaks.

I'm on the global ruu and sense 3.6. Do I need sense 4.0 and if so where do I get it?

Sense 4.0 is like a breath of fresh air compared to Sense 3.5/3.6. That being said 3.5/3.6 runs a bit smoother but on NilsP's and Joelz's sense 4.0 ROM it's smooth enough for a daily driver for me.

To get Sense 4.0 you'd have to download and flash a ROM with that "cooked in". The Venom 1.0.3 is what I'm running with the latest kernel built for Sense 4.0 and the ROM runs great and battery life is good (for a Rezound with a standard battery).

You could also try NilP's Sense 4.0. Nils is an excellent and very responsive dev...gotta a question, just ask and he's usually very quick to reply.

Give the ROMs thread a look. It's got a lot of good info and links to all the stuff I'm yammering on about.

wanda, if I install venom 1.0.3 does it have the kernel and sense 4.0 and all the goodies I need or due I have to install 4.0

You can just flash it by itself if you want, but.... I think the new Sense 4 kernels are quite a bit better, and if you flash the new video drivers (adreno drivers), that makes those sense4 roms run even better.

Download the kernel in the first post of this thread

[KERNEL] Rezound Global OTA (4.03.605) Sense 4 Kernel (VIDEO FIXED) - xda-developers

Before doing any of this make a nandroid backup, then make a backup of your apps with titanium or whatever your app backer-upper of choice is.

Put both the ROM and kernel on your SD card. Boot to recovery and under wipe menu do a factory/data wipe, wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvic cache.

I'm going to assume your S-on. If so flash the ROM. Follow the prompts in the bootloader screen to allow the kernel to flash in bootloader. Then boot into the ROM and get the ph98img file off your sd card. Then flash the other kernel in recovery just like you did the ROM only this time don't wipe everything, only wipe the cache and dalvic cache.

Boot up and enjoy!

Edit: here's a link to jolez's thread. Read all the guidance and faqs in the first post before starting though.

now I'm confused. If I want to install viper rez 1.0.3 I should install a sense 4 kernel. If so where do I get that

You beat me to the punch wanda. I am S-on. Those instructions make it clearer. I will look into maybe doing this tomorrow night. I hate to be without a phone tomorrow lol.
Thanks for the help guys, but I'm sure I'll have more questions

Ok the ROM will prompt you reboot to bootloader and will then install the kernel for you. After that, you will reboot and use a file browser to take the kernel off of your card(PH...). Then you are golden.

IF you want to switch to the better kernel you will have to flash it. I might be wrong, but I am pretty sure you cannot flash it from recovery sense you are son. That being so, you will have to

A. flash it in bootloader. To do this you will have to find someone that has packaged it as a PH.... file. Put it onto root of you ext. SD. Reboot to bootloader. Let flash. Reboot. Remove file. Enjoy.

OR

B. Take the boot.img out of that file and flash manually using fastboot commands. I don't feel confident in telling you from memory, but you can look the commands up lol.

Flashing using the file is good because you do not need a computer. Flashing using fastboot is good cause it make you feel accomplished and it is a very good skill to know when moding your phone. You can Google "Scotts noob friendly root guide" and I believe all the info is in there. Just look at the kernel flashing part.

I think (thinking here so watch the heck out) vinylfreak89 zipped the file to include an install script. That way you can just flash it from recovery.

I thought that it was undoable with son though. That is why they dont all just flash in recovery and ppl get confused. It is why we have the PH... file discussion all the time lol.(well i guess for RUUs too). He could have pakaged it so it can do both or the PH... is in the zip and you just have to take it out, but i am pretty sure you cannot flash a kernal in recovery with son.
