In the past is was after US carrier updates? How does that make sense? Any word, or guesses when the unlocked US unit will see it since we never even got an 7.1 update?

US carrier will update too android 8.0 when it is ready

but i think T-Moblie will be the vary 1st ones too get the update too android 8.0

follow by AT&T sprint and then i think verizon will be last

Google writes the firmware. Then Samsung modifies it to run on each model phone that's getting it. Then each carrier modifies it for the phones they support. Then it's released, a few individual phones at a time (so as not to overload the servers - they're large files).

So once some people using your carrier get Oreo on their S8s or S8+s (and those two follow different paths, so the release between the 8 and 8+ could be months apart) , it could still be a few months before you get the update.

Phones shipping WITH Oreo pre installed support a new Project Treble framework that will break up the logjam and make the process smoother and faster.

My question was about an factory unlocked phone. I use it on t mobile currently , but wouldn’t the update come direct from Samsung for a factory unlocked phone?

Yes the update for an unlocked would come directly from Samsung. That used to mean you were almost guaranteed to get it before carrier, but that hasn't been the case this year with the Galaxys

Plan on 2-3 months, hopefully it'll be less than that.
This. The carrier variants will likely have their updates before you get yours. I'll have my S9 before then too. Samsung updates just aren't that quick unfortunately.

Why do you think t-Mobile will be first? Both t-mobile and Sprint phones are in the beta and the t-mobile phones (even on the 6th release of the beta now) seem to be having a disproportional amount of issues compared to the Sprint devices.

Regardless, end of January has been a target date but I honestly don't know if that date will be met. Still too many issues with beta

It doesn't make any sense to me why Samsung would not release it to unlocked phones at the same time as they release to carriers. What is the advantage to an unlocked phone? I registered my phone and use it on T Mobile, yet never was able to get the betas. Apple does have everyone beat on software updates!

the update for 7.0 came to my S6 literally 2 days before I got my S8, I know it's not that good of a comparison but both phones was Samsung unlocked so I expect the S8 to get the update like Feb 27th

Are we getting close to an Oreo update for unlocked U.S. S8's? I see that Europe is getting a rollout.
