Ok, as pictured, are these apps currently running in the background somewhere or are these just apps that have been opened?

I said they were recently opened, but someone said they are running in the background. So, can you cure this for me? Thanks.

Actually, as a follow up question, can you refresh them away? And if they are running in the background, how do you stop that?

Those are notifications. Pull down from the top of your screen to see them. When you act on them the notification will go away.

Ok.. discovery... they're notifications. You can clear them. So that means I am right, these are not apps running in the background... is this correct?

Actually I can think of a couple of exceptions...Adguard which activates VPN runs in the background so the only way to "clear" it is to disconnect it. And I believe any temperature icon for the weather would be running in the background. Others, such as Slacker Radio are in the notification tray and can be swiped away or left there for easy access later, but it isn't actually running as far as I know.

Yes. That is true there are exceptions.
