im really excited for this phone because i plan to leave att soon for verizon, and this phone is supposed to be on said network. im nervous about the networks quality because it WILL be verizons 1st 4G phone and i dont want to get screwed over because im going for the best phone available right now as opposed to waiting longer for a better phone? so should i get the Thunderbolt or wait for a later device? and how do you think the networks quality will be?

For me..Im not jumping right into it. I want to see how it goes first. I'm sure there will be kinks they need to work out.

Technically, with this worry, you will never get a phone, because there will always be something else around the corner. Any time you get a new device, there is always another one coming out soon that may be better, but then there is another after that, and another after that.

So pay attention to CES and see what people say, check out the hardware specs.

Ive had Alltel->Tmo->VZW verizon has had the best service, even in my buddys mobile home when sprint, Tmo, Cricket, had zero bars I was gettin calls, text, an data.
I think the thing thats takin so long for LTE to roll out is VZW doesn't want any SNAFU's so Id expect when it is available it'll be crisp fast an reliable.

I remember reading the Verizon's LTE handsets were going to have both 4G and 3G radio's inside but that to use 4G you were going to have to slide in an LTE "SIM card".So even if you didn't want to pay for a LTE data plan now you could always add it later and in the meantime still use your LTE-equipped device on EVDO Rev.A. Does that sound right?

LTE wont be available everywhere, but the 3G and call coverage will be the same.

So even if I were to get the thunderbolt I don't have to have 4g service right? If I just want to keep things how they are now until I see how it goes with 4g

Really where didja read that ? Cuz the GF wont ever make use of 4G no point in payin for it?

Nobody knows yet, they haven't even announced the phone yet or the 4G phone services. If its anything like Sprint, you will have to pay regardless.

All details concerning customers who do not have 4g coverage areas an if they are required to pay for service will be answered on Jan 6th at CES.. I will however remind those of sprints policy. If you are in a wimax area or not, you are required to pay that extra 10 bucks for "advanced service"

I believe it was in response to another post that stated Sprint mede people with WiMax devices pay extra whether they were in a 4G area or not. As for my post on VZw & LTE, this was discussed in a thread a few months ago.At the time the Dolt was still a possible November release and it's delay to add LTE was just being rumoured. Hopefully a Mod or someone with a better understanding will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

I had to clear up what I was typing. Half sleep when I posted. I was saying that with alot of these 4g services (tmo doesnt count as 4g imho) you are paying for them regardless of your area or not... just something to keep in mind.

Right now, on Sprint, if you get a 4G phone you have to pay an extra $10/month for that service. This is true even if there's no 4G in your area. What he's saying is that it's possible Verizon will pull this same move.

Which would be a shame I want an lte device but I doubt I will have lte in my area before the end of 2011. I will not pay extra for a service that I have to drive an hour away to use
Edit
Now if I don't have to pay until lte is in and around my house ill be cool with that just give me more than 5gigs unlimited or 15gigs

I think they might make you pay, but on the other end, LTE USB modems are less per month then 3g so maybe you might not. Maybe it might not be an added $10 like Sprint and part of your internet package.

I would be in line to get this. This is pretty much VZW's version of the EVO. Just with a different radio so I don't see why not get it when it comes out.

Verizon plans to roll it out, they need to sell phones that use it and pay for the further buildout. I see 3G/4G radios being in devices for quite sometime, and likely the divide will be low end smartphones & feature phones will go 3G and higher end smartphones and modems will go 4G.

Either way so long as I can move between network coverage maps and get the phone I want at a reasonable data plan I'm cool with it.

Now if the HTC Dolt doesn't arrive until March with the other 4G Android phones it will get smoked by LG, Moto etc.

Ok well to throw my 2cents in here, anyone that's really read up on things(not sayin people don't here) knows that the handoff between LTE & CDMA is horrendous....a 2min or more delay is possible. Plus this phone is in a way outdated & yes I know the rapid succession of phones makes it hard to keep up.....but yet in still i'd wait another yr for a multitude of reasons besides what I already said. WiMax is a happy medium between CDMA, GSM, & LTE that's why when sprint does get into LTE it will be an easier transition then verzion is undertaking. I know it sounds silly to say but there will be some exceptional devices this yr & 4G LTE with verizon should be waited on just another 370+ days. It makes more sense money wise & for them to work out the kinks. I hope this was semi-informational lol

I know about the hand off issue but I want the device shoot by the time you get a tegra2 device its already outdated by the fact that the tegra3 is ready and waiting in the wings. I'm so over trying to keep up with the newest and greatest I want something that will work for me. Now I'm hoping blackmanx wasn't saying the camera sucks on this or the wait continues

Damn 2 minutes. Thats a lot for me. I might as well wait if it's like that lol.

I still think it's worth the wait until CES to see what comes out before I get back on the DX.
