People rave about iPhone displays. If the PH-1 is the same, it should be great. I prefer LCD for accuracy.
None of us have seen the phone in person so it's too early to call it a problem. Wait for reviews, then decide. There are plenty of OLED/AMOLED options out there otherwise.

No worries. It's definitely not going to be the right phone for everyone. If there's one thing I'd rant about it's the lack of headphone jack. It's not enough to prevent me from buying but it's a disappointment no less.I gotcha it's all really personal preference. Amoled tends to be a bit saturated which I do prefer.
This phone looks great and I hope you really enjoy. I am going to sit this one out.
That's the rub. Even if Samsung's SuperAMOLED displays can lower saturation enough to be color accurate rather than color saturated, I highly doubt Essential wants to pay Samsung a dime since they're trying to take some of their market share. And, if the only option is someone else's AMOLED then they might as well stick with the best LCD they can get (assuming of course that what they've sourced is indeed the best LCD they can get).Samsung's AMOLED screen on Basic Mode is one of the most color accurate screens there is. There was a time last year with thr S7 when some reviewers say it has the best accurate screen they have on database. But granted, not everyone can get a piece of that SuperAMOLED. Other AMOLEDs can't match it.

In response to both of you, the other challenge with AMOLED is brightness at low/high settings. My current phone is AMOLED and it's way too bright at night. I haven't played with an S8 in the dark to know if it's any better. I believe my panel is made by LG. I do like the colors overall but hate the inaccuracy with photos.
True, they probably would have upped the price $100+ if using OLED/AMOLED. Although, I'm not sure how "cheap" the PH-1's LCD is. LTPS backplanes are at the very top of the food chain and are what's used with AMOLED displays. CGS is currently the best backplane on an LCD panel. CGS is Sharp's best version of LTPS. I have high expectations for the PH-1 display.Would be cheaper to get LCD as well.
I'm sure displays are better by now, especially Samsung since they make everything in-house. That alone keeps their costs at a minimum. On the S7E, I don't have trouble with it at night in an almost pitch black room.
This! and the whites are whiter.I would rather LCD. I hate OLED Burn-in anxiety.
