FAQ's

ROM's:
Q: Why are some better than others?
A: Thats for you too decide, some simply look different, while others are completely different under the hood as well as visually different. Nandroid, and flash your brains out. You'll have a favorite :p

Kernels:
Q: How do i flash these?
A: There are 2 types of kernels, some for sense based roms, and others for AOSP based roms. Make sure you're on the matching rom as the kernel you wish to flash, then boot into recovery and flash them as you would a rom. Most kernels will use koush's any kernel updater which will automatically wipe dalvik cache and the normal cache, pretty sweet huh?

Themes:
Q: How do i apply these?
A: Flash them as you would anything else from recovery, and make sure that you're running a rom that is compatible with the theme. Or install the .apks and use the theme changer if on CM7 and it uses that method.

A note about HDMI mirroing solutions and which is better: Decide for yourself, both are GREAT. I understand the tension between the two groups and any bringing up of this drama will be dealt with swiftly.

Hello. Thanks for the recommendations! I'm running CM6 and trying to pick between Savaged-Zen kernals. I'm trying to achieve the best balance between speed and battery savings. Right now, I have SetCPU and overclocked with screen on and undervolted with the screen off. I understand that I won't need SetCPU if I flash the Savaged-Ven kernal. I've read extensively, but would still appreciate your recommendations. I do know that I don't want and SBC version though!

Well, the reason that SetCPU is "not needed" is due to the savaged-zen governor thats based off of the smartass governor. It underclocks and stuff automatically, although ive still gotten better results by just using SetCPU and set the governor to savaged-zen, and a underclocking profile that uses powersave gov when the screen is off.

They stopped issuing non-SBC kernels off of their mirror, but they will soon be posting instructions on how to compile a non-SBC version for yourself. So i'll be compiling non-SBC versions once that happens, and posting them in the forum.

Oh and btw, i suggest upgrading to CM7.

Thanks again for the help. I just rooted and flashed yesterday for the first time. Just flashed a kernal for the first time tonight (sound like Sprint with all the "firsts." LOL I would like to try CM7, but wanted to make sure everything was in order with the GPS before I flashed. I'm still new to the whole process and don't want to get in over my head.:)

I gotcha, GPS issues are fixed now too.
Nandroid, wipe, flash and dont forget the new g-apps ;)

True, but now that MIUI has been updated to 2.3, there is no 2.2 AOSP roms worth running lol

This thread is brilliant, thank you! I've learned a ton and it is bookmarked.

I flashed CM7 RC2, and i'm looking for the ideal kernal. Any favorites?
