I'm a fan of big phones and specifically Samsung big phones. Thought it would be neat to post a pic of what a 2014 Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 (6.3 inch screen looks like next to the new Galaxy S8 plus with it's 6.2 inch screen.

They have come a long long way in making the phones more ergonomically capable of being held with one hand.

I actually remember when I first saw the Galaxy Mega in stores. At the time I was using a Blackberry Q10 with a 3.1" inch screen haha. To me, the thought of having a device with a 6.3" inch screen was madness! It honestly looked like a tablet to me. 😃 How times have changed. Now it's normal to have a 5.5" inch screen and anything below 5" seems small.

My only comment is that this shows that measuring screens in the traditional corner to corner inches is no longer valid.

The S8/S8+ screens are narrow. The 5.5" iPhone 7+ screen is for example slightly wider than the 6.2" S8+. Same goes for the photo above. Honestly think we should be measuring in mm/cm Sq these days or just publish the actual width x height.

That is very true, the s8 plus is very narrow compared to the mega. The new "tall" aspect ratio allows for the long screen without the heft that width brings. Guess it makes more sense for scrolling on a mobile device vs a tv or tablet.

My first smartphone was the HTC EVO 4G. At the time, it was a gigantic phone. I still have it and looking at it now, it looks like a tracfone phone lol. So small now.

I came from a bigger phone (ZTE Zmax Pro) and the S8+ is just right.

I had a lumia 1520 for while, it was a brick with a 6" display...couldn't stand carrying it around and people would laugh at the size of it...next big phone was the note 4 which was much more manageable

I played with the S8+ recently, and I didn't care for the tall but narrow form factor. It reminded me why I didn't like the form factor of the iPhone 5.

I like big phones, but I prefer something wider. I'm currently using a Moto X Pure Edition, but I'm curious about the upcoming LG V30, since I prefer more width.

Yeah I don't want wider anymore after using the S8. Wider is more uncomfortable to hold after long periods.

S8 and s8 plus are small smartphone tbh, they tall but thin which leaves you with little surface area, i hate this concept.
For comparison, mine mate 9 is much wider than s8p, looking like behemoth and has gr8 amount of surface

I'm actually over big screened phones right now. They're getting comically large and they're harder to pocket. I switched out my S8+ for an S8 because of that.

The 1520 was one of my favorite phones in 2013-14. Sure it was a brick but that screen!! And dbl tap to wake.....in 2013!

I agree, my Galaxy note 2 use to bother my fingers and wrist (something about the rounded sides) would really bother me, I had to put flat side cases on it to hold it comfortably. Strangely enough the mega didn't bother my hands even though it was wider. I'm guessing because the sides are flat. I think the s8+ fits very well in my hand, it's very comfortable. They say the note 8 will be just a hair wider than the s8+ which I think will be just fine.

my first true big phone was the Nexus 6, loved it but had a lot of issues with it , AT&T sent me the Note 5 to shut me up. I feel my current S8+ fits nicely in between those two. I still have the Nexus 6

Had a slew of WPs and the 1520 was my favorite. Called it The Beast. I really enjoy my S8 but android has yet to come close to the usability of Glance.

the thing is is that because the aspect ratios are different, you really can't compare a 6" 16:9 display to a 6" 18.5:9 display

Use the Note 5 to browse and read at night. Great for reading. It's a good phone but always viewed as the beginning of the decline of the Note series... and I've had them all with exception of 1st.

Have anyone seen some of the tv shows and movies that are situated in the future? If so have you noticed the phones are tall and narrow?
