Last night I moved several Android phone forums to the more Android phones sub-forums for their respective manufacture. This should NOT be interpreted as lack of regard to any of these phones. Every single phone on this site is equally respected and is worthy of discussion to those who want to do so.
Forums with a lower amount of activity were moved to the sub-forums due to complaints of the front page index being so large that members find it frustrating to scroll through a list of phones just to find what they are looking for. There are already a massive number of Android phones now and more to come. It is no longer feasible to add them all to the index. If you look at some of the other forum sites you will see that many do not even list popular forums in their index with a picture. They list them all as subforums. Other sites pick and choose which phones should get a forum. I find this even less friendly than the way we've set the forums up.
That said, my goals were to:
1) Not overwhelm first time users to the site with a huge front page index. I'd like to limit the manufacture sections to the top 5-7 most active forums.
2) Make navigation for our existing members a more pleasant experience. One of the main complaints I've been hearing from existing members is that it takes too long to scroll through the list to get to the forum of their choice. The Xoom is an excellent example of that.
What you can do is click on the section header to see a full display of all subforums for each and every phone.
If a forum becomes very active it will definitely be moved back. In the meantime, keep in mind that it is still listed, it just isn't listed with a big icon and font in the index.
My current project is to add an additional feature that will make navigation even easier for our members. So standby for that.
In summary, EVERY phone is important to me. This whole site is important to me and I want every single forum to be successful. I work night and day to meet this goal so and part of that is making navigation a more user friendly experience. The feedback I'm hearing is that we haven't quite met this goal yet and with so many phones coming on a weekly basis, it is a challenging task to take on.
