The S20 hasn't even come out yet, and I'm already disappointed...

I really wanted to like this phone..but I have several issues already. My biggest issue so far is the "120 hz screen". Yes, it will have that ability, but like the resolution, you will have to turn it on. I assume that they do this because they know that once a person does this, they will go from great battery life to crappy battery life. I mean, what is the point of giving something like that to someone if they can't have it on 24/7? I put the WQHD 3040 X 1440 on and I honestly couldnt tell the difference between that and the FHD+ 2280X1080. While I can tell a difference between the 60hz and 120 hz screen, is it really worth shelling out hundreds of dollars for? And don't get me wrong, I want a flat screen as well, but just a flat screen, an improved camera, and an option for 60 vs 120 hz just doesn't seem to be worth it.

On top of that, the colors for these phones seems kinda crappy too. Im going to really need Samsung to wow me to upgrade this time around. It just seems like we keep losing options(infrared, optics sensor, flat screen, 3.5 mm headphone jack) only to have them replaced with options that doesn't make sense for us to even have at this point yet since the battery life is going to take a hit if you have it on all the time. It's more like part-time options than anything else.

Oh btw, I heard a rumor that the 120 hz only works with 1080p...is that true? Again, what is the point?

I've seen the 120 only on 1080 as well. Personally I'd rather have variable refresh like the iPad Pro so I don't have to worry about the battery hit. Hopefully by the time the Note 20 comes out they will have it.

What is variable refresh? I've never heard of it.

It has the ability to go from 60-120 and in-between, but only as needed. So if you're doing something requiring a higher refresh rate it'll jump up, but it you're just browsing the web or anything else it will use 60.

That would be a good idea to have too. At least that way, you can have it on, off, or somewhere in between.

I actually agree with much of what you said. I'm not understanding your gripe with 120hz though. It's just that we have to turn it on manually? That's not a big deal. I'm really excited that we'll have this option, because I've used two phones with 90hz displays and it was tough going back to 60hz. The OnePlus 7 Pro's animations actually kind of sucked, but that 90hz made it feel so quick. The Pixel 4 was the best of both worlds, with super nice animations (like the iPhone) combined with 90hz display.

That higher refresh rate affects battery life on every phone that has it. It's just how it is. Not something that's Samsung's fault really.

Completely agree with you regarding the colors. As someone that prefers to use my phone without a case, color options are important to me. For example it was a no-brainer for me to choose Prism White in my S10. The other colors were nice too, but the point is we had some good options. But the colors on the S20 are just so uninspired. You're basically limited to a powder blue (even though they call it "Cloud Blue"), a baby pink, and boring grey if you're going with the regular S20.

All-in-all when it comes to both the design (weirdly thin metal frame on the sides that detracts from its polished brilliance) and colors, it seems like Samsung was too distracted with things like the Z Flip and the Fold 2 to give much care and attention to the S20. But seeing as how I'm a sucker, I'm probably going to do a Jump On Demand upgrade from the S10 to the S20 anyway -_-

I don't understand your complaint with 120hz, it's obviously gonna draw more power than 60hz. Makes sense to have it off by default for better battery life since the average consumer won't care about the feature in the first place.

No such thing as the perfect phone. What's important to you, might not be as important for someone else. One can find faults with every phone on the market.

Right, the fact of having it turn on manually instead it just being a feature that is just on. I think the ability to have the OS turn it on automatically when needed is a great idea. I didn't even think about the Z flip and Fold 2, but I think you may be right. My first samsung was a flip phone so I will definitely take a look at that. I really wish i could have a emerald green phone. I would pick it up so quick.

Perfect point! Most of us regular users won't even care...

then you aren't using the phone to its fullest. I am more of a power user. What is the point of giving you something if you can't use it all the time without negative results?

Because some of us want choice. If I want to enjoy that amazing 5000mah battery on 1080p, I want that option, especially if I'm doing stuff on the phone that doesn't require 120.

And I don't want Samsung deciding for me when I need the high refresh rate and when I don't. I want to make that decision on my own.

I'm so happy they decided to put the choice in my hands.

Agreed. Whats the point of getting this type of phone just to turn everything off or not being able to use it to its full potential. We should at least have the choice to be able to run it at full potential.

What will or will not disappoint will come down to the cameras. While Samsung cams are great, they still haven't really broken into the upper echelon to the likes of the Pixel and now the iPhone. This will be the devices' ultimate hurdle.

I believe everything else is already as good as it'll be. Storage with expandable microSD, more than enough RAM, large batteries, the best screens, even fast monthly security updates and faster OS updates overall -- I mean, Samsung is firing on all cylinders. Just need that final claim to victory in the camera department.

With all camera-focus upgrades rumored so far, I'm hopeful. We'll see if their software processing has gotten better or not... Can't wait.

Exactly....and the 5000 battery should help make up for extra juice needed to run 120

Yes! Exactly that! I'm really hoping they knock it out of the park with the camera

Yup, this exactly.

That's what im saying. All the way up to the Note 8, I always turned off location because I thought it used too much battery and had my brightness down to 25%. Now that these batteries are getting better, I can leave location on all day and turn my brightness up to 50%. I just didn't want to have to charge my phone more than once a day.

How the Hell does one get disappointed when you haven't actually seen all details. The phone isn't even out.

Fair enough to have strong opinions once youve seen the phone. I think you've set up your self for disappointment regardless
