I am a bit jealous. My wife just got the Samsung Moment. We are on Sprint. The feeling it haves in your hand blows the Motorola Droid away. It is a well contoured, solidly built phone. The HTC Hero favors it in feel. The Moment feels heavy and solid, but it is actually listed as being slightly lighter than the Droid. It runs 1.5 currently but I expect 2.0 will be out soon.

My wife was set on the Pre for months. I could not talk her into a BB. She wanted to be patient and wait for the price to come down. I took her to play with the Moment and even though it was priced even higher than the Pre, she had to have it - no more waiting. She went back the following day to the only Bestbuy around that had one.

Between the two of us, it has been played with for hours without the first bug. The animated screens, drop-downs, etc are well put together. I can email as fast as I can on my BB.

YouTube has a great interface, but you do notice serious degradable from the mobile YouTube on the bigger high res screen as compared to my BB.

The screen on the Moment is awesome. Some have said it does not show up well in direct sunlight. We have had it inside, and outside and it looks awesome. I cannot test it on a beach in the middle of summer right now, but I would say 99% of the time you will have no problem.

The keyboard is also very nice. It has little rubber keys that feel nice, and they have plenty of space between them. I did notice a bit of typing lag, but I have done nothing to optimize the phone other than turn off Wifi.

The Android operating system is put together really well. I like the way everything is animated and scrolls. It takes a bit to figure out how things work, as the access points are not blaringly obvious. Once you do, you really how much it maximizes screen space.

The Voice-mail is also Google-fied. We have yet to really play with this feature as it was just activated, but it seems like it has a lot of nice additional conveniences.

The Android Market has tons of free apps. I think these are called Widgets, but I'm not sure. All I know is there's hours of free entertainment to be had.

I love my Blackberry Curve. It is a no non-sense, lets get down to business and do it on a solid system that complements professionals. If the 8900 comes to Sprint, I expect I will get it. With that said, I would love the Samsung Moment for all non-working hours. It is a very fun phone.

I think the Android system is going to cut into the iPhones market share a good bit. Especially if they do not move to other carriers. Blackberry will perfect the business class phone and dominate that market, and Palm will fade away or adopt Android.

An added note:
Sprint appears to have dropped the ball on this phone though. Very few Best Buys here have them. The Sprint stores did not even have one on display in a claw - it was locked in the case.

All the publicity has been behind the Motorola Droid and its sales are through the roof. Lack of supply and marketing is part of the reason Sprint is losing so many customers/money. They have the best plans by far for the price.

My local Best Buy and Sprint store had this phone. While Best Buy had the "dummy", the Sprint store had both the Moment and Hero on display, as well as two Palm Pre's.

I had the Moment for 24 hours until I returned it. I too am a Blackberry Curve user, and have used a BB for about 3-4 years now. Loved the Moment for an "off hours" phone, but for business use I prefer the BB. I may consider switching back to the Moment once more apps roll out and the 1.6 or 2.0 OS is available.

I agree, The Moment is a great device. However, I am curious why you guys don't think this is not a good business phone? Exchange Push ActiveSync works amazingly well, as does almost any other feature that the BB can provide.

1) Sprint's Desktop Connector is not applicable
2) Lotus Notes is not an option
3) No VPN (yet)

I just got my Moment on Sunday. I have spent hours searching, looking, finetuning. I like it a lot! My nephew is an IPhone user, but it was going to cost us too much to switch over to AT&T. So we stayed with Sprint. I researched online, asked lots of questions and then went to the Sprint store to actually get my hands on the Hero & Moment. I HAD to get the Moment because of the slide out REAL keyboard! And, very glad I did.

I'm not very computer techy/savvy. My old phone had a camera which I never used! It also had text which I used, but that was about it. I basically used it as a cell phone to call people only... nothing fancy shmancy... this Moment is just wonderful

I use Google Apps for my business, and Google Voice as my personal as well as business number. Because everything syncs seamlessly on my Moment to my Google account and K-9 Mail does my Google Apps mail amazingly well, I have no need to connect to a Desktop connector of any kind, since all my Contacts and Calendar sync from cloud and Mail by IMAP (with WebDAV support).

As for Lotus Notes, you're right, it's not available on the Android platform.

There are a few free VPN apps on the Market though, you might want to check.

All in all, Android is still a new platform, but it's improving rapidly. For larger businesses on dependent on non-cloud applications and VPN, the Blackberry still reins supreme. However, I find that for me, the Moment provides all the business related items I require and all the fun I want in one device. Heck, I am using my laptop less and less since I got my Moment and am more Mobile. Now I can be at a coffee shop or on the Caltrain to San Francisco for a social while I'm replying to business emails on my Moment and on the way back, watching inspiring presentations on TED.

I think the deciding factors in me getting my Samsung Moment tonight were:

1.) The fact that it has so many options for imputing data (keyboard, virtual keyboard. Touchpad, & touch),

2.) The fact that I now have basically a pocket sized laptop that makes phone calls.

PS: First post here from my new pocket laptop...I mean Samsung Moment.

Actually you tube runs the best in this phone even better thatn iphone just need to go to menu, more and watch in high quality takes couple more secs and the pic is amazing!!!

boyfriend and i got matching samsung monents for xmass, man we love em.
lol although im a little jealose, he hasnt taken his eye off of it, finetunning, music, viddeo, all the apps lol..

Reading all these great reviews makes me want to get a Samsung Moment, I currently have a BB Tour.

This phone is a time suck...in a good way, it's very hard to put down. There have been reports of battery issues (mine included) but that has been resolved. The phone is just fun, anyone reading this and waffling on getting one...go for it, it's only going to get better!

I got mine last week and was a bit bummed with the battery. I actually took it back and got the Hero...for about an hour. The Moment surpasses the Hero in every Sense (sorry, had to). I noticed after using the Moment for a couple days, then using the Hero, that the Hero is much slower. The only thing I did like about the Hero was the virtual keyboard...oh wait, I now have that on my Moment :) No, the Moment doesn't have 7 screens, but then again, WHO THE HECK NEEDS 7 SCREENS ?? Not me. The other thing I hated about the Hero was the trackball. Coming from a Blackberry Curve, I am familiar with all the possible problems you can have with a trackball. Not to mention that after a few months they turn all dark and nasty and you can't just swap the ball out like on a Curve. I think the sensor pad is a much better bet. As for the battery on the Moment, yes it sucks, at first. I did 3 cycles of letting it die till the phone turned off and then charging it with the phone off and now I'm getting 36-40 hours on a single charge EASILY !! I am VERY happy with the Moment and it's only gonna get better when 2.1 comes out !!:D:D:D

I saw Best Buy has the Moment for $129.99 this week for New and Current customers that want to upgrade, I see this as a sign for me to get it on Friday!!

Loving the moment. I jumped from a Crackberry Tour, that I feel was the best smart phone I had ever had. The only reason why I picked up the Moment and went to Android was I had the chance to play with my father's Droid. Navigating around the Droid took me 5 mins to figure out the layout of the OS, and I was sold!!!

I got lucky because my gf wanted to be added to my plan, since it was cheaper for all involved. I was going to get her the Crackberry 8530 Curve, but since she liked my Tour so much, and it was a week old, I gave it to her, and had to decide between the Moment and the Hero. The Moment won out due to the better hardware, and the physical keyboard. Sure, the Hero has a 5 megapixel camera, but I have a 12 megapixel camera and the 3.2MP is more than enough.

Now to patiently wait for 2.1 and to learn how to "root" the phone.

Quick question. since it uses a Linux kernel, is there a terminal in the phone that I can access?

I just switched over to Sprint a couple of weeks ago, and for my primary line I got the Blackberry Tour (which I love!) I then decided to add a 2nd line (I get my lines dirt cheap since I now work for Sprint) so that I could get the Moment and play with it. I just got it on Friday and so far for the most part I like it. I'm still trying to figure things out on it though, for example is there anyway to put my Yahoo calendar on it or to get Google to pull the info from my yahoo calendar. There are a ton of fun free apps in the market place that are really cool. I figure I'll continue to play with it for about 3 months and then decide which phone to keep as my primary. It's too bad they can't just combine the Blackberry and the Android, I think that would make the best phone ever.

the moment is okay. when i get app updates the phn dnt tell me i have to keep checking market for it. i like the original instant messenger thats on here just wish it was more like the gtalk add pics and stuff hate i gotta download another just to get those features and wish regular email comes as fast as the gmail. battery life of course sucks
