So yesterday was a very busy day. Got new hardware and software in and while deploying had several motherboards finally die (been having issues since day 1). So I was on the phone emailing and texting all day about twice as much as normal. I had to leave work early for something so the shift picked up where my laptop leftoff. So for the hour+ drive Im continuing to surf, chat and email not even thinking about anything but which motherboards Im getting and how Im going to implement these nodes back on the network. I get back and head to the gym to work off some stress as Im jamming to some nice tunes I keep getting emails/calls/texts. So much for stress relief. Finally I get home resolve my concerns of the day and as Im laying in bed at ~11pm I decide I do NOT want to watch American idol. I figure fighting my wife for the TV is the last thing I need after a day like that so I go and grab my nice bose headphones and start a movie on the shift. Finally some relaxation, no outside noises just me and one of my favorite movies. When I get to the credits I turn the phone off and set it on the night stand and go to sleep without charging it like usual.

Wake up a little late (hit the snooze too much) and as Im rushing to get ready I realize I didnt charge my phone and Im worried since I worked it so hard yesterday. Oh well throw it in my pocket and go to work. Im at work ordering parts online and its business as usual. As Im tearing down the computers I start to jam to some tunes on pandora. All is well for Mr. Sys Admin. Go to a meeting where I use the shift for notes (should have just used my m11x but oh well) and then off to lunch. Pretty hectic day so far. 2pm rolls around and I get my 15% battery warning.

Morale of the story is the title. This phone seems to impress me more and more every day. I can only imagine what the extended battery will yield once its released. Just surprising how a phone thats just as fast if not slightly faster then my epic 4g can do so well on the standard battery yet all those evo/droid/epic users cant get the same with extended batteries.

I think this would qualify more as a rave than a rant. ;)

I'm loving my Shift as well. My battery life isn't very long currently because I play with it ALL THE TIME. Very distracting at work, LOL. After an 8 hour day of teaching, I just got home and I still have 40% battery life. It's my first Android phone (wife has had several, so I'm well versed enough) and a HUGE improvment over my old phone, the Palm Pre. I still grin when it takes all of three seconds for Google maps to open (took over a minute with my Pre, even overclocked to 1000 MHz).

I too am a Pre convert and the snappiness of the processor is by far the most noticeable improvement. I really haven't put the battery to the test since I sit at a desk all day. The Pre was pretty good about battery life though. My wife has the Big Ass Evo and she's always complaining about her battery.

Stories like these make me want to try and make the jump to the shift by selling my OG EVO, especially since Ima have to deal with this battery for 2 years instead of 1

If you end up selling it ill buy it. Name a good price. Or by chance your close by, ill trade my new shft for your Evo. My famly just all got Evos and it will be nice to have a FFC.

I would agree, the Evo Shift battery life is on par to my expectations. I don't have to worry about carrying a battery charger during the day unlike my Evo and the once easy forgotten Epic which got returned for the Shift.

I can relate with your story completely. I use the piss out of this phone and it takes it ease. I've been tweaking settings to get even more out of the battery, but even in stock form it blows away everything else I've used in the last year.

I honestly cant wait for the extended battery to come out, but in all honesty this is the first smart phone I havent had to worry or keep refreshing the siedio page for the extended battery release. The phone just impresses me at every turn and Im glad I finally have a phone that has me NOT hoping and praying for things to come.

What I enjoy about this phone is its simplicity of UI and keyboard. The Shift does not have the additional fancy gizmos (front facing camera, separate qwerty number keys) like other smartphones but it sure gets the job done for my needs. There are some features of the Shift requiring some future updates; however, they are not severe enough that would deter anyone from purchasing this phone. IMO, battery life is not a factor when considering this phone.

the 5 row to 4 row was a pretty big adjustment for me, although right off the bat I was make a lot less typos with the shift. The front facing cam was nice and all but I video chatted twice on my epic from release day (aug 31). So I wasn't sad about losing that. When I got my epic there was speculation of it releasing 2.2 and they removed a lot of features that would or could be in a soon to be released update but that never happened. The epic was the first phone I bought with things I needed or wanted coming in an update.

The shift on the ther hand I am not waiting on anything for promised functionality. I actually bought on a whim when having to make a choice and just have been impressed more each day. The battery life is a huge factor for me as I'm always out and about and having a phone last a long time os crucial as I cannot always get to a plug.

All the same, I would like to have an extended battery for the Shift. Specifically, I want one that just gives a small extra bit of capacity, just enough not to increase the physical size of the battery and require a different battery cover. When I had the Pre, I had a Seidio Innocell, which, despite only giving 17% more capacity, actually allowed me to be less chintzy about power usage. Such a battery for the Shift would give me just enough extra juice so I wouldn't have to constantly turn features on and off, plus I could use live wallpapers all the time.

EDIT: Duh, I just assumed Seido didn't have such a battery for the Shift yet, but they do (same battery as the Hero), 1750 mAh with no size increase:

Here is what youre looking for: seidioonline.com

I had the 2600Mah for my pre and it allowed me to stay awayfrom a charger for 2-4 days. Im hoping that whenthe double sized battery comes out for the shift Ill get the same time. ::knocks on wood::

Yeah, I found it. ;) I can't do the uber-capacity batteries, too much extra bulk! Kind of defeats the purpose of the Shift with an extra 1/3" (or however much) added to the thickness.

Agreed. While the time away from the charger would be nice 2% of the time, I'd rather save the size the other 98%.

Seeing as it's a simple USB connection away, I never really find the need for the extra punch. I'm either near a power outlet, car charger, or PC at some point in my day so that this guy have enough juice to get through it.

In fact, I was able to stretch out 47hr unplugged the other weekend by simply turning off auto sync and staying connect to my wifi. It would have gone longer, but I was going to out that afternoon/evening, so I needed to get a good charge in.

Yay for micro USB! All my Pre chargers work with my Shift, very nice. Now if I only I could somehow get my Touchstone to work also. :p

The double capacity batteries aren't for everyone. I sometimes have periods of time where I am no where near a useable pc or wall outlet. I do have this: http://shop.sprint.com/NASApp/onlin...ID=PGU2300R_C&topPageNumber=0&subPageNumber=0

Works great for emergency situations and triples as a flash drive and charger for my phone. The extra bulge never bothered me, and althought I considered getting the 1750mah battery for instant gratification I feel as though it won't be enough to satisfy me. I just hope they are quicker at making the shift version then they were with the epic version.

Is the Hero battery compatible with the Shift??? I read elsewhere that the OG Evo battery was compatible with the Shift. Are they really all 3 interchangeable?

Although I cannot answer this question I would think that HTC would do this for manufacturing ease and cost.

Yes it does, you just have to flip it around to fit in the Shift. However, the Hero's battery is a lower capacity (1350 mAh instead of 1500 in the Shift). I don't know about the OG Evo's battery though.
