the tablet goes silent once in a while? does that happen to anyone else?

Not a problem for me. I would suggest removing some apps or if you are running a custom Rom check with the Rom maker.

I noticed something a couple of times, but I think it was on my phone... When I was listening to music on the headphones, things got quiet for a second or two then came back. I later (must have been different volume settings) noticed it again got quieter for a moment, but that time I faintly heard my alert tone...

Could this be what is happening to you?

i don't really know any apps that may have changed the settings.

but my problem is that once the tablet goes to silent, then i will have to restart. otherwise, it will be silent forever.

Nope, all good to me. Make sure there isn't an app changing that.

I haven't noticed it on my Nexus (because I rarely have anything playing), but my iOS devices do that briefly when email is syncing. Is it possible that something might be syncing in the background when that happens?

EDIT: oops, never mind. I didn't see that last part about it staying like that until a reboot.

FWIW, I had to replace my first one because one of the speakers stopped working after two weeks. Apparently, speaker issues are not uncommon with the new model.

this thing doesn't happen everyday. when i first got it. for the first few days it happened almost daily. i didn't even have a lot of apps installed at that time.

but i am just assuming it is a minor problem.
