The trash can icon is missing from my Samsung Galaxy J3 Star phone how do I retrieve it

I check my incoming mail, check mail I don't want, hit trash can to move to trash folder. Go to trash folder to delete and there is no trash can just an envelope and three dots.

Long press the message and hit the delete button at the bottom of the screen
