The Wait List

Hi! I'm a member on a couple other smartphone experts sites. Several WM6 phones to the Pre and hopefully soon to Android!

So I decided last minute (Saturday evening while I was out) that I wanted Evo. Of course no one had it, and (unless they lied) apparently the Sprint store right near my home had them until Sunday morning but I wasn't in the area!

So now I'm on the wait list. Who else joined the wait list? Chime in and let's count the hours together!

I'm looking forward to getting to know the OS. Obviously the specs are amazing, but I've only had 20ish minutes hands on time with the live display unit and its not like I could use it as if I had all my personal data on it.

Im on the waiting list. I was expecting a call from my Sprint store Monday, unfortunately, that didn't happen. I hate waiting, especially when its like everyone has their Evos now. I'm really hoping they get shipments today. and I signed up saturday too.

i cant get it untill mid july probably. my pre just crapped out again so sprint is sending me a samsung moment so i can get used to android. then when they have some more stock ill probably get the evo for full price billed to my account and use it for a month take it back and use my upgrade to get it for only 200. i want the phone that much lol

I ordered my directly from Sprint on Sunday evening. According to their site, it should arrive tomorrow... however, after checking the status of my order, it appears that I've been wait-listed for probably at LEAST five more days. (grumble)

My local Radio Shack is supposed to get a new shipment on Wednesday. I should have waited for them. I know some people have been badmouthing Radio Shack and their customer service, but I'm lucky in that I have some old-timer Radio Shack employees at my store and they are AWESOME. I've had them help me with a couple of previous electronics projects I had been working on and I've never had such great service. When I asked about the Evo, they seemed even more eager than me to help me get things set up. However, in a moment of disloyalty, I thought I could get the phone faster via Sprint with less hassles. Oh well.

I signed up Sunday. But the Sprint store closest to me is actually in a lower income neighborhood, and the girl said that's why they had them through all of Saturday.

One girl declined to say how many people might be on the list, but that she personally only added 1 name. I overheard another associate mention the list was only 5 deep, and this was near closing time.

I too was expecting (dreaming about) a Monday afternoon surprise, but alas... Hopefully today will be the day.

I've just been Googling a lot of Evo stuff and am sad to have come across the 16-bit color depth information, but in my time with the Evo at the store nothing stood out to me as poor looking or out of place. There was even a point when I had my Pre on the counter next to the Evo, to do side by side speed comparisons.

I have my Pre overclocked to 800 mhz. It has been very fast and stable for me since then. Even scrolling animations are much less laggy. So I was disappointed when there was noticable lag in the Sense UI. All I heard was blazing speed this, and smooth scrolling that. Well, it wasn't long til I put Advanced Task Killer on the demo unit, saw the 20+ apps running and killed them all. It seemed to solve the problem immensely but harkened me back to wm6 days. Otherwise, normal apps definitely opened faster on the Evo. Especially the phone.

Also, the Pre loaded web pages noticably faster than the Evo. In fact, I would type the url into both address bars, and for the sake of argument I even pressed Go on the Evo first each time. precentral, androidcentral, penny-arcade, and 2 or 3 other sites all fully rendered just as the Evo started rendering.

None of that is getting me down, however. It's a totally different phone and a totally different environment and that's why I switched to the Pre to begin with. I still love my Pre and am going to keep both phones. I shortly considered getting the Evo on a 3rd line so both phones would be active, but was dissuaded by having to juggle phone numbers or call/text forwarding. Besides, I hear that any previously activated phone can be reactivated at will via sprint.com within (usually) a few minutes. If I'm ever feeling nostalgic I can rock the Pre for a couple weeks.

Can you say Live Wallpaper! :P

How do you do landscape browsing on Android? Rotating the phone alone on the demo unit (with and without charge cable plugged in) didn't work. There was a checkbox option for "Landscape Only Browsing" but I'm sure there should be orientation based switching?

I've seen posted Dolphin browser with tabs? Sounds great. Man I can't wait.. too excited to sleep.

Also, I just got Sprint when I got my Pre in November, but I've had the upgrade discount on my account since the beginning. The girl at the store wasn't sure why i was eligible for an upgrade so soon. I said it was probably because I walked in with a Pre I got on eBay, therefore it wasn't subsidized, but she said they just gave it to me June 1st, and that shouldn't matter. Either way, I plan to use that to my advantage. Mail-in rebates ftl.

I currently use a Palm Pre, and I've actually had it for about 2 weeks, so if I dislike the Evo (hah) then Its back to the Centro I've had for 2 years. But you can always go back to the pre on the website, I think I did that once, haha.
I don't fully understand how the evo loads slower yet, but ive definitely heard that from different sources. I always had trouble with multi touch browsing on the pre (typing and moving the page when I type) so im not sure if that will be the same with other phones like the evo since the pre is my first touch browser ( or that you would even consider touching at least)

Trust me. I love my Pre and am happy using it every day. I've only been plagued by a few hardware issues (damn you headset jack!) and am enthralled with the intuitive nature of WebOS. (Can't wait to see what comes of the HP acquisition)

Evo is the newest, biggest, baddest toy and I feel like it's Christmas! But it will definitely join the Pre in a drawer when a newer, bigger, badder (possible?!) toy is released on Sprint. If I'm lucky, it'll be the Pre 2.

I ordered my directly from Sprint on Sunday evening. According to their site, it should arrive tomorrow... however, after checking the status of my order, it appears that I've been wait-listed for probably at LEAST five more days. (grumble)

Wow! When I ordered the phone, it was supposed to arrive on Wednesday... then when I checked the status of the order, it showed that I had been wait-listed... well, those little scamps at Sprint were apparently teasing me like a 19 year old blond wearing thongs and a micro-skirt.

Not only had the phone already been shipped, but when I tracked the UPS shipping, I found that the phone has already arrived at my local UPS office and is ready to be delivered to my door!

Got put on the wait list at a large Sprint store close to my office yesterday. The say they should have another shipment in this week, so here's hoping.
