Themes?

Do the themes you download through ROM Manager (ie. Blackhole) do something different than the themes you down load through the market?

The themes from rom manager are deeper and usually require flashing a rom again to get rid of them.

is there an advantage to a theme or does it just look neat?

Mostly looks but sometimes you get added features as well ... like power button options, percentage on battery, etc.

Can I apply any of these themes or are they rom specific?

Some are rom specific but usually labeled as such. The themes change fonts, colors, etc. Like what was already mentioned, sometimes you get a tweaked notification bar or other enhancements. Some are cool. Some arent. Guess you have to experiment.
