My poor old cracked Nexus 5 would be almost like new, and not far from its 4th birthday.

Notice the "Not now and in fact, not in the near future." Also notice how clear it isn't. Just put a plastic (not tempered glass) screen protector on the screen and put the phone into a case that has some shock-absorbtion. My 4 year old phone has been dropped many times, sometimes screen-down, and actually thrown against a wall once, and doesn't have a mark on it. I just wish it could run Lineage 15 - or even 14. If phones get too old, we might actually want them to break.

Theres at least a dozen things I can think of to make cell phones more durable. The manufacturers would never implement any of them though... they WANT us to replace our devices every year.
