I love this phone but Verizon has lied to me, so should I return it? I talked to Verizon and Samsung today and both are saying we may not get the official update to froyo. So now im torn! I know this phone is capable of doing more!(No I am not rooted)

Id Like to know what other Fasciante owners think if I should or shouldnt and why PLEASE? Mind you that verzion is offering to give me full price of the phone back towards a new one and I didnt even get it from them. And if I were to get a different phone what should I get?

Thanks

We absolutely will get the official update. Verizon and Samsung both sold OEM accessories that require 2.2 to fully work (car dock/desk dock). Plus, two builds have already been leaked. Be a little more patient, it will happen. This phone is one of the best on the market right now. The Epic 4G and Captivate just got their updates... We're next

Who was this rep you were talking to , reps are so uninformed its not funny. So if he is right , samsung is spending boat loads of money on developing froyo just not to release it, thats super nonsense.

If you want froyo then just get it

that thread has helped thousands of people get it ,,,if you want a version that is stock as it will be when the official is released there is this thread

I love my fascinate and until a new samsung phone comes out ill be sticking with it,,,, i cant look at a washed out LCD after having my fascinate

I have been patient for long enough! I waited months to get a new phone and get rid of my BB! Would like to root my phone to get more out of it but I am afraid in case I brick it. Verizon told me NOT to do it either because I mentioned about rooting so they know if something goes wrong its prolly cause I rooted it, and all I did is mention that I seen ppl rooting theres.

I still think its a great phone.... you could always through a custom rom on it if you really can't wait any longer. Be patient... Verizon is usually slow at releasing updates. If you really hate the phone that much and see something better you like...return it.

i think i know of maybe 1 or 2 people who actually bricked their phones, and i gaurentee that they were recoverable with a little time and knowledge. but its possible

the methods i gave above do not require root

Droid X how likely is it I will brick my phone? I have loaded new OS to my BB but it seemed to be easier. Also I heard that it a lot harder to get back to stock, say if something does go wrong with my phone and I need to return it.

Its not that I hate this phone I know what the capabilities could be on the phone but its not near that now!

I am also really confused with all the ROM, Kernal, OS ect. ect. And I have read up on it but I think reading it all has just confused me more. It was so easy with BB why is it so hard with Android system?

The fasc is awesome, had one. If verizon gives you retail towards another phone, I would jump! Whatever device I had from a half a year ago. People have adapted, as those have said, and you can get the fasc souled up. I would find that rep, when you do, slide me their phone number would you? I can't seem to find any willing to retail me to a different device beyond 30. And phones I don't get from them.

i flash maybe 4 to 5 times a day, i mean i do serious hacks , gunnermike does things to his phone that would make mothers weep for their children. non of us have permenantly bricked our phones,,,the very method in the links i have provided above is the very tool samsung would use to recover your phone, just always make sure to follow directions...... and if you have a desktop pc vs a laptop is better.

Johnly all I did was call into Verizon 800 number told them I was not happy with the phone because there reps lied to me about update! I got the phone from Wal-Mart because phone was less than $50 and Verizon wanted $200!

Also if I were to abandon ship what should I get?

You'll find a lot of support on this forum. As long as you follow the instructions exactly, and stop if you don't understand something, you'll be totally fine. The worst that will happen is you're phone will be down for a few hours till somebody on the site has a chance to help you.

I've posted this a few times, but here it is in case you haven't seen it: Verizon reps are not allowed to talk about a software update until it is available for mass consumption. In other words, if you can't have it today (either OTA or by going into the store), they aren't supposed to talk about it. Anything they tell you outside of that is personal commentary and is useless information.

If you follow the instructions, rooting it is actually pretty easy. I was nervous about it but did it two days ago and all is well.

Run a backup of apps and contacts or simply reinstall them after the update.

Follow the instructions, including downloading all the files to your computer first, including the Samsung drivers listed in the instructions. After you've downloaded everything just follow the instructions step by step and it should go smoothly.

If you mess something up you can follow instructions to set it back to the original condition.

It can seem intimidating if you don't know all the terminology and understand exactly what you're doing but the instructions are wonderful and tell you everything you need to know.

Good luck!

thunder bolt is more of a phone imo but that is what I would do. Sounds like you have a unique opportunity most don't get..I would jump.

i tend to agree with johnly in this case to an extent, i would more then likely get the Tbolt , then sell it and buy another fascinate lol

but you can get a newer phone for free which is great unless they plan on renewing your contract in which case it is a debatable advantage

Do it!

Lilhussler79,

Don't be afraid to flash your phone and root it! I was just like you, I was afraid I would really screw it up. But yesterday I screwed up my courage and flashed and it was very very easy! And you can always go back to stock the same way. Follow DroidXcon's instructions on using ODIN and you will be fine.

And if like me you would prefer stock, you can always go back once the new update is released.

I can't emphasize enough how easy it was.

Would love to get the Thunderbolt!! But I dont think Id like the 4g payments! Also I have to make a decision on Fri on what phone id like. I told them I need to do some research before I make an impulse buy over the phone!

Droid X why would I get the T-Bolt then get another Fascinate? Also when do you think this phone will come out?

What phone would any of you recommend over the Fascinate? If any at all and why please, or is the Fascinate the best phone out in your opinion NOW?
