Hey folks

Everywhere I read and look.. I dont think Ive seen a single bad review of the 6P, which sounds great, so Im thinking of moving from the G4, but I have a few questions:

-I mainly use my phonr for Media... audio, video and photography, hence the bigger screens and battery.. Under the current OS buid:

-How is the battery life under current OS build
- Are the speakers as good and as loud as the M8 and M9.. as I have a Google Play Music account and enjoy Movies on my phone.
- I also enjoy reading Google Newsstand and Flipboard.. what are the viewing angles like and is the Text crip and clear.
- Most importantly to me though is the camera.. The G4 still remains one of the best phone cameras around, even over the S7edge and Z5.. the only camera that has ever come close to the consistency of crisp shoots and controls is the S6 edge + (with MM 601).

I do know the 6P doesnt have OIS but it would seem Haweui have pulled off DIS... what is the Camera App like... does it have any Manual Mode and if not, is the 6P camera fully functional under a 3d party Manual Camera app.

What are your feelings overall of the 6P.. Is there anything you dont like about it?.

I would be looking to sell the G4... and after shopping around, my local store has a BNIB unbranded 6p for an extra £40 after the trade in of my G4, so is it worth it?

Thanks.

Do it. Nuff said.

Better battery life, camera in auto mode, display, quick updates, built quality, snapdragon 810 for me the nexus is the best smartphone behind the s7 edge out there

I had a G4 before getting my 6P, here are some comments:

-viewing angles are great, I can turn my screen almost completely facing away and can see everything clearly. Screen is much better than G4.
- in sunlight it's a little hard to read due to AMOLED so turn up the brightness
- audio is better not only because of speakers but where the LG locks down EQ options in apps such as Google play music, 6P has them available to modify as you wish.
- camera is not better than G4, but it's still fantastic and not hard to get very good shots. It's better than my previous S6. Don't worry about ois for pics, you won't even realize it's not there...the s6 took more blurry pics.
- phone size is bigger than g4 but for me overall more comfortable to hold.
- stock Android is better than LGs variant

I had an S7E-- then sold it 2 weeks later.. Gorgeous design and Build, but... Camera was terribile, Yes thats right... it was bad... I dont care what the YouTubers and SS fanboys say... It was awful (Ive got evidence to prove it)... and yes, TW.. for all the bluff and bluster of SS and reviews... TW is still the Disney of skins and SS own versionof the stock google apps...

Thanks for that big list of help... youve helped me decide to buy it... I must admit I do love the G4 manual camera controls, although UX 4 was a bit top heavy as is the G5s UX5, so itll be nice to go pure Android and just point and shoot for a change.. Manual Mode is nice, but sometimes you can get a bit over picky with it..

I used to have an iPhone 6.. and liked the Auto mode on that.. because all you really only need is an Exposure (EV) setting for day to day shots, the rest can be done in PS., so how does the camera respond to using a 4rd party camera app with Manual settings.. ISO, EV, White balance.. etc... Does it respond well.

Thanks

My friend the g4 is an awful phone terrible battery life, bud processor, medium display and low light camera with auto every time has yellow tint,i had the g4 8 months behind with bootloop problem i lost all my image and never try lg again,s7 edge is a fantastic phone years front from any lg device

6p is a great phone,i had it before my s7 edge and my only problem its the low light display

By low light display, you mean visibility in high brightness areas outside? If so, yes...it's not as good as a Samsung, my S6 was better in that respect. But the overall display on my 6P is the most comparable to a Samsung display, and that says a lot. I dont think you could go wrong with either phone, although s7 offers some advantages.

I agree with your statement on TW. Even with Nova prime I still see too much TW in the UI. I am much preferring stock over any other Android variant, that's why I came back. After trying a moto play, I knew stock was my next OS.

As far as taking pictures, I do appreciate the simplicity of the 6P similar to my appreciation for iPhones. I think you'll be happy with the device, only bad part is lack of SD. If you can get more storage do it. Let us know what you think of you go for it.

Yes thats it outside bad visibility only with root and custom kernel fix this problem and the display its good like s6 but the s7 edge display its much better

I sort of agree with your here... I wouldn't say it is terrible, but it's not the end-all-be-all camera that it's made out to be. Yes, it is blazing fast... focus, snapping pics, launching the app, everything about the camera is speed. And the app is loaded with good features that are easily accessible. I think a lot of the reviews are kind of blinded by these two aspects of the camera.

But the final quality of the pics gets a big ol' meh from me. My wife has an S7, which I am currently trying to figure out what phone to replace it with... and she often mentions that the pictures from my 6P are better than the ones she took (often at the same time/place/etc). She says her pictures sometimes look 'pixely' and she's right... Samsung processes the pictures on the S7 to death, and while they look GREAT on the phone display, once you blow them up a bit, that quality falls a bit on its face.

I would even go so far as to say her older G4 took better pictures than the S7... it could go out the lunch focusing sometimes, but the final results were a bit better. And 6 months down the line, are you going to remember how quickly the camera took the pic, or will the quality of the image you are looking at be the only thing that mattered?

That being said... my 6P still takes better pictures in near every condition than either the G4 or S7. Sure, the standard mode isn't going to win speed awards... Google still needs to tighten that app up a bit as it can be deliberate at times. Not really slow, just not as fast. I haven't really lost shots because of it, but it's not its strong suit, either.

I actually keep the phone in Auto-HDR+ mode most of the time... which does add a bit of time to the shot but the quality of the resulting picture stomps anything... HDR+ is magic as it smooths out a little of the exposure issues but is a miracle worker when it comes to noise... and unlike Samsung, which is kind of brutal when it comes to processing, the 6P leaves you an image that is more natural looking.

Now, the Google Camera doesn't exactly have a ton of manual options actually, it doesn't really have any. :) But the good news is that it supports the camera2 api. My fav 3rd parties are Manual Camera and ProShot and both work wonderfully on the 6P, including the 6P running the N preview... but I tend to just stick to the Google Camera because dat HDR+.

Im glad Im not the only one who thinks the S7 cam is too over-processed, and yes.. my G4 walked all over the S7E.

Anyway, I bought the 6P.. and man I love it.. So fast and fluid.. No Bloat, No skin,,, The speakers are amazing.. on par with the M8, better than the M9 but much louder.. Ive had it next to me bed and love it for Night time listening , the display is stunning and i only need it at 40 - 50% brightness depending on time of day.. so big battery savings there.. and the camera is awesome, as good, if not better than my G4.. although, still need some more testing as Ive only had it 2 days..

Also, you mentioned ProShot.. up until MM, I used to use Windows Phones.. 1020 / 930 / 1520 / 950XL.. and i liked ProShot, so its great to hear you mention that.. Is it a great app?.. I did look on the 6P detailed spec sheet and the camera doesnt support adjustable Shutter speed, but it supports everything else.. EV ISO.. et, but with a camera this good.. shutter speed isnt an issue.

The 3 apps i looked at were: ProShot / Camera FV-5 /Camera DSLR Pro.. but if anyone can recommend any others .. let me know.. as Im happy to buy an fully working camera app :)

The 6P seems like an awesome phone, but I would say your timing is slightly off as new Nexuses are right around the corner.

The next batch of Nexus phones might be better (OIS?), but from the rumours there will be no more front facing speakers which seems like a deal breaker for you.

If you are not satisfied with the next batch then surely the 6P will see some price drops here and there.

So I suggest returning the phone and waiting a bit - even though it's really tough to let go of a brand new and awesome gadget!

ProShot is really good... Oh, shutter speed is most certainly selectable, I can go from 0.2s to 1/17000.

Another app I like is Manual Camera. The UI and controls are excellent.

I used to be a WP user until 8.1, I loved my 920 camera, the 1020 was great as well I'm just not a photographer so I used mostly as point and click. Curious, why move over from 950xl, or do you still have it?

Thanks for the suggestion, but no thanks, for me, newest is not always better and I dont care for cutting edge specs.. 1 generation behind is fine in my book, if it does the job and functions smoothly.... then Im happy with that.... I really like my 6p.. plus when I traded my G4 in.. I only had to pay an extra £30 towrds the exchange.. and thats a win.... I read the runoured specs of the Hauwei Marlin and HTC Sailfish.... the front facing speakers make it... and Im still not 100% sold on HTCs new camera in the HTC 10, its worlds better than the M9s, but needs work, my 6P was a great buy and Im happy with it :)

well thats good news, especially S.Speed, sadly... I couldnt find a Proshot demo, so I want to make sure its ok before buying :)

Ive tried Manual cam before on my old G3.. but wasnt struck on it, might go with ProShot

To my regret now, I actually sold my 950xl out of frustration, when I had it.. it was on biuld 617.. and it was really bad.. screen freezes, app crashes and all kinds of issues, but i will buy it again, I do like the clean unbloated UI of WP. as you can uninstall any app... hence why I went for the 6P, but the camera was great as well.. there were a few apps I wouldve liked, but to me... WP apps gap.. is not a biggy :)

I also sold my G4 to get my 6P. The only thing I don't like about the 6P compared to the G4 is that it was more slippery and slightly harder for me to hold since it has a flat back vs the G4 curved back. I solved the slippery part with a Slickwraps leather back so all is good now though... :) Enjoy the 6P!

I did this switch a week ago. Really love the 6P.

Screen better (my first AMOLED, love it)
Faster
Better speakers and front-facing
Camera better IMO
Much faster sw updates, LG sucks! My G4 was still on January security update, not acceptable
Bluetooth works better (G4 needs to be rebooted every now and then because of some bug both me and my wife has experienced)
Wifi works better (G4 had problems with Wifi disconnects, 6P holds the connection stable)

Con: noise canceling on the 6P seems broken, people I talk to sometimes complains that they cannot hear me
Con: Not Qualcomm fast-charge compliant
Con: No wireless charging
Con: It has rebooted like once every day. This morning I also lost all my Bluetooth connections

I did just this a month ago and have not looked back. I had really crappy battery life on the G4 when the updated to M. Never could get it to manage networks right in my building.
