I love the phone, it's super snappy, and the camera is great. I was willing to overlook the blue tint, and dullish colors, as it's world's ahead of my 6p.

But now I can already see burn in at the bottom!

I'm thinking I have to return it. I hate that it's like this, as I don't really like any other phone on the market. The S8 fingerprint sensor is a deal breaker for me.

Is there even a reason for me to not return it? Cause I'm looking for one :-)

No - You paid close to $1000 for a phone with display flaws. Get your money back before you're stuck.

I am curious, how to I see it if I have it?

Did not notice, no. But isn't it a sign of worse burn in to come down the line?

At this point I doubt anyone can answer for sure.

I am trying to gauge how much people actually notice this in real world use, as opposed to looking at a plain grey screen analyzing pixels

No. It is a sign of burn in in a place you will never notice it. My og XL has pretty bad nav bar burn. You only see it if it's hidden and that area is bright white with no texture.... So basically never.

Just chatted with a rep. she said that my report of screen burn in, or any screen issues at all, was the first time she's had any screen complaints. weird

I'd say keep the phone. Google will not risk unhappy customers. They will either fix or replace the devices IMO along with some incentives

I certainly wouldn't keep the one you have, but whether it's worth it to you to try again with another one I couldn't tell you. From the way you talk about it it sounds like you really like the phone save for these issues, so I'd be inclined to say give it a second or even maybe a third shot; but eventually if it doesn't work out you may want to move on. Whatever path you take, you paid good money and you're entitled to a unit you want to live with. It's not worth it to have a phone you don't like using.
