This one problem may cause me to leave the Note 10+

I've been using Google Voice for my phone number since 2006. Up until now it's been a perfect companion.

However, since I've been on the Note 10+ (my previous phones have been Note 2 thru Note 9) I often can't answer an incoming call. I get a Google Voice screen and it says to slide up to answer or slide down to silence. That's all that' is on the screen. No phone number, no name of caller, nothing else. When I slide up or down the icon slides up or down but it neither answers the call nor silences the call. If I press the home button it closes that screen but the phone still rings and there's no way to get back into it. It's the oddest behavior and I've missed some important calls because of it.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Google Voice with no change. Step 2 will be to do a factory reset of the phone. If that doesn't work then step 3 will be to order a Pixel 4 when they come out next month. I love the Note series and have stayed loyal but I can't have a phone that won't answer phone calls. :(

Any suggestions to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

So you want to get rid of your Samsung phone because of a Google problem....

OK... Bye...

Well, I don't know who's problem it is, I just need it to work. And, I just checked and it works fine on my retired Note 9. So, is it a Google problem or a Samsung problem?

I'll try a factory reset with only the Google Voice app installed. If that solves it then I know it's a conflict with another app. If that doesn't solve it I'll pull the Note 9 out of retirement until I can get a new phone.

Aside: I don't understand the acid sarcasm. This is a phone, not a family member. Either it does the job or it doesn't. Loyalty should be saved for people, not things.

Well I don't think a factory reset will help, sounds like Google need to optimise that app to work on Note 10
did you try to uninstall the app and reinstall it or just check if there is any update on the way for it

I've done the uninstall/reinstall dance a couple of times. There have been some updates to Google Voice since the Note 10+ came out. The latest one being Sep 9.

A factory reset will no other Play Store apps installed will tell me if there's another app causing Voice to behave this way. If that solves the problem I can add necessary apps one at a time until the problem resurfaces.

Was that necessary? It surely wasn't helpful

Not that this is a solution but it may be helpful. Have you tried any of the options in the Accessibility settings? Single Tap/Swipe might be a workaround for now

Right with you. Sold the 10+ I had due to some intermittent conflicts with Google Fi.

Ok, I did a factory reset and GV seems to be working fine now. If I ever find the conflict I'll report back here.

10,000 like just for that last sentence you said. Burst words I’ve heard in years

I do have intermittent problems on Google voice now and then. I had one instance where I received the call just fine but after the call was over the screen was just stuck on the call screen and couldn't get out of it. It just froze there, I force shut down and got out of it.

Not a big deal since I don't get that many calls and looks to not happen all the time anyway. But yes I have also seen the issue with Google voice.

Interesting issue. Made me test it out on my note 10+...my GV number rings through the same as my carrier number. Glad you got it sorted out!

I wonder if it was some kind of App Permissions conflict? (Especially if you transferred apps/data from your old phone) sometimes something that worked fine will have issues because the permissions implementation may have changed.

Cheers,
BR

Good point. I probably should have gone into the app before the reset and checked to see if all of the permissions were correct. Thanks for the tip, I'll keep that tip in my toolbox.
