Are you guys around metal at all? Mine started crackling and i noticed fine metal shavings collecting in the speaker. some i was able to clean off and it improved the sound but it still crackles not as bad.

looking for input, i work with metal and that has been an ongoing problem with me and phones over the years. I have looked at some of my older phones"yes i still have them" and they had a felt or some kind of material that covered the speaker and i am noticing on the newer ones there is more of a mesh material witch allows bigger materials to get thru

I don't think that's it. I noticed it for the first time playing with Ethereal Dialpad. It's definitely a static issue, maybe audio clipping. I don't think it's the speaker itself, but I could be wrong.

And my phone is quite clean, thank you very much. :)

Just a thought..... mine started crackling after 1 day in my work truck, and it has been a constant issues for me with phones.

This happened to Palm Pre users as well. I remember a similar thread on Precentral.

Make sure you open the back cover and try to get rid of the stuff that sticks every once in a whlie.

That does help! I suspect that some smaller particles make it past that point. You don't have to work with metal to be exposed to magnetic dust or anything.

your speaker has a magnet in it.. so it will collect small dust samples..

Good news though, if you ever want to order a replacement speaker, installing it is extremely easy.. I took my phone apart with 6 small hex screws.

I know lol. I am wondering if people who are trying to return their phone cause they think the speaker is defective. I don't want to void my warranty just to replace mine. I think I am going to put a fine cloth over the speaker holes. I have also plugged up the Mic on phones from the dust.
