Here is an email I got from HTC earlier this week.

Dear JOSHUA,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us here at HTC Joshua. We are sorry to hear about the
issue with the Weather Widget and Blockbuster on your HTC Thunderbolt from Verizon.

Well Joshua, we have good news for you, at least we think it is good news. Here is the official information we have just received regarding Gingerbread for this device :

"We are excited to announce that the HTC Thunderbolt will receive the Gingerbread (Android 2.3)
update in Q3 2011. Stay tuned for details as we get closer to the update availability.

"Our goal is to give every customer the best possible experience on every phone. Every HTC phone is a combination of a unique HTC hardware and software experience and a core operating system. We only update our phones if it will provide an overall improved user experience as we balance features, performance and usability. Because of this, we will only update the phones to Gingerbread when we have completed thorough testing for reliability and hardware compatibility."

As such the Gingerbread release for the Thunderbolt is slated for Q3 of this year. Once we have more information on specific timelines, it will immediately be posted to our social network feeds on Twitter and Facebook, as well as on htc.com/us.

This updated ROM should address the issues you are experiencing with the Market and Blockbuster apps.

With regards to the weather widget, we have some suggestions for you. Remember that "searching" your location will often not find where you are at as there are only a certain number of preset cities in the app. The remainder of the locations get retrieved using the GPS and weather database from AcuWeather.

Due to the lengthy instructions for troubleshooting the weather widget Joshua, we will send them in a second message for you. Keep an eye out for a second response after this one.

End of part 1. part 2 to follow.

To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number 11USCW32ENA002469.

Sincerely,

Jamie

Good to hear, but for right now, I'm gonna take this with a grain of salt and probably consider re-rooting in the very near future.

Looks like the Blockbuster glitch has cleared up, at least for me. In fact, it isn't showing up at all in the My Apps section of the Market anymore.

Re: Thought I would share this with everyone about Htc and GB for

For all we know, GB could finally come on Sept 30th, since it's technically still Q3.

Personally, I don't mind waiting a bit. After MR2, my phone is stable as can be, so I'm not chomping at the bit for another update right now. I want them to make absolutely sure any update doesn't break what works. Better battery life would be nice, but my extended battery has made this less of an issue for me, at least until they turn on 4G here, whenever that is.

Which reminds me. I can't understand VZW's 4G strategy in Alabama. Lighting up Huntsville first makes sense, given all the aerospace and technology companies up there, but I can't figure out why they haven't done Birmingham yet. As I understand it, they've turned on Mobile and even Montgomery, but Birmingham is the biggest metro area in the state, and Tuscaloosa, which is 55 miles away, has UA, which has over 30,000 students and one of the biggest football stadiums in the country. On game days, you can easily have over 120,000 people on campus. With numbers like that, you'd think this market would be a priority for them.

I saw the title that says 'GB for Th' and though 'Gingerbread for Thursday' :( Well, maybe is for this coming Thursday August 11th. :) Yeah, we wish! haha.

Haha, I thought "Thu" was for Thursday too! Maybe it will come on a Thursday, but probably not this one, sadly...

The OP failed abbreviation class.

FYI, the Birmingham/Tuscaloosa area was scheduled to get LTE the same time Montgomery and Mobile went live back in May. But the tornadoes at the end of April destroyed numerous cell towers and damaged many others causing a major delay in deployment as Verizon needs to replace and repair all that damaged equipment.

See this video around the two minute mark.

Odds are 1 in 7 that GB will come on on a Thursday. And I'll stand by my prediction. :p

Title was edited so it stops the confusion and doesn't mislead anyone.

Then I guess 9/29/11 is the date. I'm not going to start holding my breath until 6:59 AM on the 29th.

Nice. Hopefully some nice sense 3.0 custom roms will come from any official release. I'm kind of hooked on it now. Goodies for everybody rooted or not imo.

My guess is that it won't come out until September, otherwise they would have said it was coming this month. So it's at least antoher month to wait for it.

It's been discussed numerous times that the TB will NOT get Sense 3.0... it is scheduled for a Sense upgrade, but it will be Sense 2.1, not Sense 3.0.

Re: Thought I would share this with everyone about Htc and GB for

I used to get excited when I see these posts/emails from HTC reps. I'll believe it when I see it. Too many let downs.

I am pretty sure that is why he said CUSTOM 3.0 roms. Still a shame that we wont get an official upgrade to 3.0

There are plenty of custom ROMs that are currently running a custom version of Sense 3.0... Das BAMF, Gingeritis 3D, Liquid GingerSense, just to name a few... the list is very long right now.
