Wanda...the debate was over before it started. So, with the phone under warranty, is the original system retrievable and any mods undetectable?

Well that's the catch...it does void the warranty. However if you were to un-root it and put it all back to stock like new out of the box there wouldn't be anyway to tell. And if it was rooted and all tricked out and lets say you dropped it into a bathtub or pool or something similar where they can't access the phone anyway, they definitely won't be able to tell.

Ya think?

Look I am trying to toss a bit of humor into this, but the bottom line is that I am willing to wager that this 25.00 device, if that, is just junk that is mass produced in some foreign country where costs are minimalized and profits actualized and multiplied and the people working there, gauging from the finished product, are not totally invested in their objective.

If the thunderbolt BOM is $ 262, I strongly doubt that the rezound costs $25 for BOM, not even factoring in all the other costs.

If you unlock the bootloader and then relock, from what I have heard, it will say "relocked". Warranty only covers manufacturing defects, not accidental damage from water, drops, or whatever.

Insurance covers certain losses not covered by warranty, but you have to pay more for insurance and a sizable deductible. There are also limits on claims, you should read the specifics of the insurance before agreeing to buy it.

Yes, it does void. Of that I'm aware. The only thing that I question is, if the system is reestablished after root, there just doesn't seem to be a way to hide the fact that it was rooted. Then it's insurance job time. That is what has always prevented me from rooting. It is a long story why I have yet to get an Android out of warranty, but I never have. I keep saying I will do it then, but my sis ends up with the older phone and she has no business with a rooted device. So...that's my spot in the fence.

Before you give it to her just un-root it and put it back to stock. I'm about to do the same thing for my dad. I'me giving him my old Inc and I'm sure he doesn't care a thing for Cyanogen Mod or any of the other stuff I've done to my phone. I will leave it rooted but just flash what ever the last stable stock Gingerbread was. He'll never know the difference unless he goes into the phone system and starts deleting stuff at random.

also, with regards to warranty, rooting does not in and of itself void warranty. If a problem came about caused by the root, then of course it would not be warrantied.

Keep in mind that I am talking about the warranty as defined in the warranty brochure that came with the phone when you bought it.

Verizon is not the warrantor, and as such can make up their own rules on warranty exchanges, since they are not legally required to provide warranty.

What this means is, if Verizon chooses to not warranty a broken volume rocker since the phone is rooted, then they can do so. However, the warrantor must provide warranty for all manufacturer defects, regardless of root.

Iirc, When I read the warranty brochure, it stated that PCD is the warrantor for this phone, you can read about the specifics in the warranty brochure.
