Three button navigation versus gestures

I want to take a few minutes to give you my feedback regarding this. I was reading some Reddit posts yesterday, and I figured I try to use a three by navigation on my phone versus the gesture controls. I will say that I forgot how smooth the three my navigation is versus a gesture controls! For example the quick toggle In order to quickly switch between apps for the three my navigation is way smoother than the gestures-controls. And if your phone is locked and then you quickly double tap the power button to activate the camera. Then hit the home button versus swiping up on the Lock Screen is a smoother as well. Has anyone else tried this lightly at all? I know that gestures has been around since android 10 and all, but it’s very refreshing to see it and use it for more than a few minutes...

minutes. I’ve been using three of my navigation since yesterday morning!

I tried it but i ended up getting used to the gestures that when I had it enabled muscle memory would kick in and still force me to use gestures to only find out "oh yeah i disabled it". I know it's just getting used to it again, but i enjoy gestures more because of how clean it looks and not having the 3 buttons visible at the bottom and ended up switching back to gestures again.

How , yeah dude I hear you! See for me, three button navigation almost feels just as natural to me as gestures do. And I swear, maybe it's just me, but the phones operating system feels smoother and slightly more fluid to me with multitasking, quick toggling between apps, and launching the camera quickly from the power button that it did with the gesture controls. I know it sounds weird, and it's hard to explain, but for right now I think I'm just going to keep on using the three button navigation. And see what Android 12 beta program does with a third button navigation versus the gestures. You know what I mean? For example if you hit the square button, then toggle over to the app you want, in gesture mode, you can either swipe down or tap on that app that you want to reopen it back up. If you swipe down on the app and just remote, it's almost as if the OS hiccups or glitches for a split second then reopens that app up. If you tap on it and either just your mode, or three button mode, it doesn't glitch as much. Give it a try for yourself. Tell me what you think if you're willing to do so lol. Same thing goes for on the lock screen double tapping the power button to quickly activate the camera, then swiping up on the lock screen to close the camera, or hitting the home button to close the camera.

Also what's weird is when I made this post, I used it from an I've had that my wife brought home from camp, and uploading pictures in medium quality doesn't get nearly as pixelated as it did when I used to use a Tapatalk app on my phone. Which is really really weird, and really interesting.

I'm a gestures user, don't like the space the buttons leave at the bottom and I like the way gestures are with back button.

I didn't pay much attention to how snappy it was probably because i only had it enabled for about 30 mins. It wouldn't surprise me for that bring the case because it doesn't need to register the gesture first in order to perform the animation. I would imagine it would take more effort for the phone to perform an animation using gestures vs the buttons.

Maybe I'll give it another try, and use it for at least a day to see how I like it.

Yes the photos were fine compared to the ones you posted in the past, very strange.

Yeah, I hear you mustang dude! I mean for me, most of the gestures work very well for me. My muscle memory is good for either the three buttons, or the gestures... Lol! I can do either work. So I'm going to play around at three buns for now and see how I like it but so far so good again ??????

Yeah I know what you mean. I don't get it either. The Tapatalk app for iOS versus Android for me at least is way different.

Yeah, like I said, 96% of the gestures through my muscle memory are absolutely fine. The back gesture works beautifully, it's just a quick toggling for multitasking between apps that's a big janky and quirky and sometimes bogs down. Yeah if you're willing to do, give it a shot and tell me what you think. I think I'm going to play around the three button navigation for a little bit for myself on my phone and see how I like it. I will agree that the buns take up a little bit of space, but so far in the UI of apps that I use, it's not very very big / intrusive to me.......Thankfully!

Oh, hope you had a dude! At the end of the day it's all personal preference about what you like I just want to add your feedback since we're all very active together on these forums! Gesture navigation is definitely much more immersive, no question about it ????????????

Similar to what dmxjago stated, I tried switching back to 3 button navigation for a day or two but switched back to gestures. I like the extra screen space without the buttons, and was so used to gestures that I kept using gesture motions with the buttons on the screen. I am currently using an old Moto E (button nav only) as my yard work / lawn mower music player and I constantly find myself trying to swipe a gesture and then remember that the phone has 3 buttons only.

Yeah I hear you! I understand having the extra screen space is much more immersive without the buttons without a doubt! Good for you! ????????????

Agree with more fluid with buttons and I've tested a few phones especially with 3rd party launchers... Unfortunately I can't go without gestures as well due to screen real estate and convenience of gestures

Nice, nice. I'm glad you did the testing. I mean I'm kind of shocked at how smooth and fluid the OS is with the three buttons versus the gesture navigation! It's shocking to me.

I was once an ardent buttons user, but gestures have won me over. It took some time going back and forth and over time I've grown to prefer both the function and the aesthetic. It helps that the Nova7 beta works seamlessly with gestures. That wasn't the case prior to joining the beta.

I like the gestures too but I always expect swiping on the right to go forward instead of back! Not sure if there is some setting or launcher that can change that.

I love buttons so much I use 4 buttons on my LG V60 (the far right pulls the notification shade down without having to stretch up to swipe). I was rocking 5 buttons on my V20 to access floating apps, but LG removed that awesome feature. I tried gestures, but couldn't get use to it. I actually do appreciate the added space they take up, because it lifts my keyboard as well, making it easier to type one handed (though not as good as the V20 with the buttons plus a frame chin to raise the keyboard).Screenshots_2021-04-01-10-52-36.jpg

Well It's definitely true as far as personal preferences of course for everyone! Lol. Like I said I like 95% of the gestures at Google program then to Android. But that whole mini swipe gesture for quickly flicking between two different apps at once is quirky and jerky. The three buttons makes it that much easier in my opinion. Will I go back to the gestures for myself? EH, right now like I said I'm very happy and satisfied with the three buttons again. It is true that they take up space on the bottom part of the home screen, but right now I just don't mind it. I know exactly where to touch and where all the touch points are, and it seems a bit easier and accurate to navigate. Maybe that's just me though.
