For anyone who would like to try a Froyo rom on the Optimus V, I would suggest the ThundeRom 1.8.2 from Beezy & KSmithInNY which was developed for the Optimus S.

The link below is where you can find the rom.

There's still a lot of work to get it optimized to work on the Optimus V, but hopefully this post may help get the ball rolling.

This is at your own risk, I'm a newb & only want to share what I've found the last 2 days I've been playing with this.

Things that work: Bluetooth, Hot-spot

To get mms outgoing working on this, you can use this file to replace the mms.apk (OEM?):
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

To swap the home & menu button, use this (From Zefie's CM7 thread):
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

3g data will work if you go to Menu >> About Phone >> Update PRL
Then *#*#4636#*#* >> Phone Information >> CDMA auto (PRL)

Here is a checklist of issues the roms/kernels sometimes cause. See which ones apply:
  1. Touch keys being swapped
  2. Wireless
  3. BlueTooth
  4. 3G not working (check)
  5. Accelerometer (does the screen rotate?)
  6. MMS
  7. SMS
  8. Freezes after the first reboot

I might give it a shot if things are truly running well for you. Someone has to be the first guinea pig :)

I can already tell you that the accelerometer will not work.

And you have about a 50/50 chance wifi will not work. Sometimes t may, sometimes it won't, depending on how you flash.

VPN will probably break too. Not sure about bluetooth.

Most of this is due to the newer Xionia kernel. Nothing after Xionia 005 works properly. The flipped buttons is an easy fix though. I haven't tried the entire rom, but I have tried the kernel and build.prop from it for testing purposes. The kernel is killing us from using others at the moment, this is why all of our roms still use the older one.

1. i swapped the keys already
2. wireless works for me, but i notice that when i'm using the extended controls widget, and i turn on the wifi, it doesn't connect till i open the settings menu (if i turn it on manually through the wireless & network it works fine)
3. bluetooth works completely, conntect to pc + headset, no disconnect, can hear both sides.
5. accelerometer works
6. mms br0ke
7. sms works +160 char. auto split
8. restarts ok

The thing i like about it, is that it's snappy, and well it's not gingerbread, but I like froyo too. of course I miss having the CM7 stuff on there, it could be a nice 2.2 stable rom if someone works on it.

I've only had this phone for 2 weeks so I'm still new on the lingo. I'll dig through the xda forums later to see if I can do something about the 3g.

hmmm. I just left the house and it seems like the data portion does work. It's only showing as 1x though. Oh, and the hotspot does work natively on this. I guess the only real problem is mms and of course optimization of this rom

I have used it to get the 3g to work go to settings > about phone > update prl and those things you will get a message saying could not connect to network then the handsfree activation will come up let it go through then the 1x will appear and it will say there was a problem or something like that i know im not on the rom there you go 3g i restarted mine the first time to get the 3G went away and had to do it all over again

i'm going to mess around with the build.prop values to see if that'll do anything. will post results later

edit
3g works

So if I'm reading this correctly, everything but mms is working? Count me in! I'll test it out a little later.

Update:
I can't seem to get the 3G to connect. I tried changing the setting you mentioned but nothing happens.

there's an issue with the hands free activation with the optimus S's that "disconnects" the APN, to get the internet back,

go to: settings >> about phone >> update prl. it probably will give an error message, but the data portion turn on. Then you can set it to CDMA auto PRL. I'm looking at a way to figure out how to bypass this issue

So I figured it out. If you try to turn on the wireless hotspot feature it'll kill the 3G and then die. I have to reboot to get the 3G back up. The hands free activation does seem to screw it up if I cancel too soon. I have to let it sit there for a while then I hit cancel. Obviously there are some bugs to work out. So the verdict:

mms not working
3G issues but probably fixable
wifi hotspot not working natively, I haven't tried any hotspot apps

What I like:

The colors man...the colors....
It is zippy, but I don't know if it is any zippier than Rodimus. Quadrant: 480
Some more settings that let you customize things.

It is a nice clean rom. It needs a little development to fully work with the Optimus V, for example, the visual voicemail should be stripped. The Kernel is 99% compatible which is most of the battle with porting S stuff to V.

does that mean you'll be working on it?!?

btw: i don't have that issue with the hot-spot. it seems to work fine on mine. I'm going to start pulling apart how to get the mms working. once I get that, i'll move forward

I wish I could, but I don't nearly know enough to be useful. If you figure out the mms issue, make sure to share it with the other rom developers. It is broken in almost all the custom roms for the V.

I wonder why I had an issue with the hotspot. Did you install anything or are you working with just the raw rom?

the only other thing that i've installed was games (angry birds, etc) and maybe... extended controls. facebook, twitter, etc

looks like MMS outgoing is ok. I can't test incoming since the samsung galaxy i have has issues with mms too

I ended up scraping the work once I realized the scott pilgrim rom had everything the thunder rom had and worked out of the box

Sent from my LS670 using Tapatalk

FYI scott pilgrim (ie Zefie's CM7 for the S which is more up to date than the V version) is completely different from thunderom .
