Time to Root

I was looking forward to froyo 2.2 when I heard it had wifi tethering but was disappointed when I found that the droid would not have this feature. I really want to have wifi tethering capabilities on my droid so I figure now is the time to root. I have read many instructions on rooting but they are all from 2.1. I am currently running 2.2 so are the rooting instructions the same or do I need to do anything differently? Any help or link to some step by step instructions for rooting with 2.2 would be a great help. Thanks.

download dmupdater (the latest update) its an application. open it and and click root. its not in the market so google it and make sure you install apps that arent in the market thing is checked. the funny thing is i know all this but im to scared to root my droid

don't believe the new dmupdater is "officially" available. There was a leaked copy but it caused problems. There's another one-touch app called Easy Root that can do it for .99. Easy Root is back! - Unstable Apps. Just download/install the apk, purchase a key through paypal and root.

Without purchasing an app are the steps to root the same with 2.2 as 2.1?
