I purchased the Xoom for $599 and a 2yr contract for a $20/mo and just found out that the early termination fee is $175 minus $5 per month until it reaches $60.

So it really doesn't make any sense paying $799 when you can get the subsidized price with a contract and regardless of when and if you cancel you will always be paying less.

UPDATE: Turns out others have a $350 termination fee on their new Xooms. Looks like Verizon made a mistake on which contract to put me on when they signed me up. Of course, I'm not going to complain.

Well then, this is nice to know. :|

Oh well...

edit: Just looked @ their policy, and it's 175 or 350. 350 for "advanced devices." Wouldn't this be considered that?

Verizon's etf for advanced devices is 350 and this qualifies as an advanced device. When I asked I was told 350 flat no matter 23 months or 1 month in.

Its 350. This is specfically written in the loads of paperwork I received.

Well, that's what I thought also but I just read my receipt and it says $175. I called Verizon to confirm the fee and he also said it was $175 for this device on my account.

I picked it up Thursday morning so I'm guessing that they had the Xoom categorized wrong when I bought it and it was fixed subsequently.

Guess I got lucky.

I attached a copy of the termination fee section.

Do you happen to have a corporate discount through the company you work for? Mine is also listed as $175 on my receipt and I'm wondering if it is due to my corp account. I also get 20% of my data plan every month and 25% off all accessories. I'm not sure this is why the $175, but maybe?

It may have been your account and being grandfathered into some clause. But I would not expect it on your next purchase. Either way it looks like you just got very lucky with your purchase.

Good point. Yes I have a business account. Maybe the termination fees are less for crop accounts. It worked out great in this case.

I also have the early term fee of $175, right on my receipt so I will scann this tomorrow and e-mail it to myself to avoid future problems.

I too am a corporate account holder, still not sure if that is the reason. I called verizon and never ideitified myself and the guy on the phone also quoted the $175 with $5 per month reduction.

I got mine on the morning of the 24th. My receipt says $175.00 termination fee as well!

Not that I would break my contract, its good to know my liability.

Got mine on the morning of the 24th, and my receipt says $175 also. I payed $599 and got a $150 discount along with it, so my cost for the Xoom was $450 with 2 year $20/mo.

I also bought mine Thursday on launch day and, my contract says $175.00. I'm getting a corporate discount also but, the contract said that before I registered it.

The salesperson actually made a mistake with me, I paid full price and wanted a month-month contract and, he put me on a contract. Long story short, I chose to stay on the contract and, got refunded the difference. With the discount through my job, it's only $28.00 a month for a 3GB plan. I thought it was worth it since that's only $8.00 more than the 1GB plan and, I have three times the data. Having a $175.00 termination fee doesn't hurt either.

Good for those whose receipts says 175 because VZW will have to honor it. When I got my iphones it also said 175 on the receipts even though advanced devices are 350 and it says 350 on the site. It would be interesting to see if anyone has a receipt that actually says 350 on it.
