Titanium Backup / Backup Pro

Can someone explain the right way to use these apps? I always have to start over when flashing a new rom....if I use them, my launcher force closes and my phone misbehaves. I would like to back up my apps so that I can easily port over my apps from my previous rom.
What's the proper way that will work?

When backing up, only back up app and app data, do not try to back up system data or restore system data. That's where you will start messing up your phone

IN Titanium backup the app names are in different colors, don't attempt to back up anything in green or red. its often times more hassle then what it is worth. Unless it is a bloatwre app that you really want. just leave them be

Don't back up system apps. Calendar, the stock launcher or music player or the market etc. They come in most ROM's and if not easily downloadable

This is one place that Mybackup Pro has it all over Titanium, Mybackup uses actual names, in plain English as opposed to system file names like Titanium uses. It's much easier to see what you are backing up.

Another thing, as I mentioned in another thread, when you restore, do the apps first, the the data. Some apps do not restore properly unless done in two stages.

I use both apps together to quickly restore all my apps. I first backup all user (non-system) apps (APKs only) with MyBackup Pro, then I backup everything (system and non-system) apps with Titanium Backup Pro. After I do a complete wipe/fresh install of a ROM I install MyBackup Pro, restore the user apps (including Titanium Backup Pro) and reboot. Then I use Titanium to restore the data of select apps individually.

I know there's a way to bulk install apps with Titanium but I've never tried to set it up because MyBackup Pro does this without any setup. Others may have an easier way but my way has worked for me and it's pretty fast since I only need to restore data for a handful of apps.

Anyone have a better/easier/faster way?

Titanium Backup (paid version) doesn't require any special setup to batch restore apps. You just click the menu button, select batch, select restore apps, and restore. If you have the non-paid version, you have to OK each restore, but the paid version does everything for you.

The best thing about these apps is how they can virtually expand your storage. Backup and then uninstall any apps you don't use at least once a week (you'll be surprised how many apps you have that fall under that category). When you do need a particular app you have done this with, restore it, use it, then uninstall it again. Adds 30 seconds to your trouble, but it gives you virtually unlimited storage space.
