Yes. I'm not sure how soon, but it is in the plans from Samsung to update/convert the Galaxy Gear to the same OS as the Gear 2...Tizen.

and if you notice that when the watch boots up it is no longer the Galaxy Gear, it is just the Gear. Essentially making it the previous version instead of a unique product.
