I am currently thinking about picking up and Evo but have a few questions. I remember playing around with one around launch day and remember the bad battery life. Has any of the updates fixed this? Also I am an app junkie and see that after space is allocated there is only around 326 mb for apps. I know many can range in size, but can someone give me a base # of how many they have. And to those of you that are rooted, how easy is the revert process if for some reason the phone has to be returned? I know these questions have been asked before but im having a hard time tracking them all down in the forum. Mainly I just want to have the assurance im making a good decision. Thanks in advance guys.

Evo. Definitely. There are a lot of improvements since launch day for battery life. Gingerbread is supposed to be the most efficient OS so far, obviously. As far as allocated space goes, you should be alright. A lot of apps are coming with the move to SD card capability. Rooted... I typically have 120MB remaining and I have about 90 apps.

As far as root goes, it's almost a must. IMHO. You'll probably be happy for a few weeks, then want to root. It opens up whole new doors, and when you start trying new kernels you'll see it drastically change the performance and battery life.

You can be an app junkie, we all are. We all have addicitions, some ROMS, spme apps, with me it's kernels.

If you have a PC, once you're rooted, you'll be able to easily unroot with HTC sync. As it stands there is no unroot method for mac/linux. The root process might be harder for you since you'll have a newer hboot, but the root process none the less is available. It's just more tedious, and there are people here that will help you.

You won't be disappointed if you move to the EVO. Currently there is no phone that is better. The Epic 4G has a nicer screen, but IMO I like HTC way better than Samsung's phones.

^^ I second the notion. You won't be disappointed - I just recently got mine and I'm always doing something on the internet. I get a reasonable amount of battery use on my phone.

I've never tried to do anything to my phone yet, maybe if I knew someone who could do it for me - then I would. :)

As far as battery life, I was REALLY disappointed because I came over from the Pre but I calibrated my Evo battery and the life almost doubled! I'll be interested in seeing what Gingerbread brings to the table as far as that goes....

I thought the palm pres were said to have the worst battery life.

Its telling me to downgrade to 2.1

Does anyone know the improvements you get when you root it and download a rom? Like, whats the point? For example, Precentral constantly patched up webos to make up for Palms deficiencies, so what are these roms going to do? Just give me a couple more new icons and get rid of Sprint bloatwares?

With 2.2 you have the option to save to the SD card, how can the root process help you? Sorry for a Noob question.

I have a froyo method. you can pm me. it will depend on your hboot. you can either downgrade if you have any hboot before 2.02, or you'll have to use the froyo method.

@callderek... what method did you use to calibrate? Just curious...

the root process gives you full access to the phone versus the access htc and the carrier give you

Did you look at the rooting method using froyo?

Unrevoked version.

^ thats a simple method, three step... download the zip, extract and run the 3 .bin files. but... if anything happens you'll have to enter the code manually in the adb. I was talking to xhausx last night about the method... i'm trying to get a mac solution for the method.

So I visited the XDA site and it seems alot of people are having problems with the new hboot. They are losing the camera ability, sd card, ability etc. I will admit im not the most computer or tech savvy person, I would really like to root to get rid of blot wear and a few other things, have these problems been worked out?

To Evo. Had mine since launch. I haven't put it down yet. To this day I find something new to do. It's an incredible machine.
