To root, or not to root...

Just got my Evo 4G from switching to Sprint the other day and I've always heard rooting your Android phone was the way to go. I have no previous experience with Android phones, but easily installed a jailbreak and unlock on my iPhone before.

I love Linux and understand Terminal commands, I'm just scared that once I root my phone, I won't be able to unroot it very easily or I'll mess something up. I heard custom ROMs are the way to go, but I've got an HTC and since it's a new phone, I still like my SenseUI.

Just wanted to introduce myself and lay out my dilemma... maybe I can get some good comments from people to help sway me in the right direction?

Thanks!

EDIT: I've read ALL the FAQs and guides for rooting the Evo... just still on the fence...

Unrooting is very easy. All you need is the RUU and the unrevoked forever s-on tool.

There are excellent custom ROMS that keep the Sense UI. Myns warm would be one that everyone likes, it keeps the UI but is very themed but tasteful.

After having mine for the first 6 months it was out I rooted it. I really wanted to see what the hype was and I haven't looked back. Very happy that I did root it, but hey thats me. I enjoy changing things to my liking. :)

By the way, Welcome to the forums!

So, I rooted my phone and tried out Deck's Gingerbread but I really like Sense... so I'm gonna try the one you suggested. Thanks for the info!

Fresh EVO 4 is GB with Sense but it is still experimental. Welcome to the AC forums.
