to transfer everything from note 8 to note 9

I downloaded the smart switch to my pc can I use that to transfer everything from my note 8 to my note 9 including games also? Also, would I use the same method to move everything from the note 9 to my new note 20 when it arrives? I've never done this before so, I thought I had better get some help from people who have. All help will be greatly appreciated Thanks!

You should be able to, but you should also be able to cut out the computer and transfer direct from one to the other using SmartSwitch. You'll be prompted to do it during setup.

Will I have to reset the note 9 back to factory first?

I believe you would, yes. That's the only way I know to kick off a full transfer, not to mention that if you transfer apps there might be a conflict if you don't reset the device first.

Phone number is usually tied to the SIM card.

I plan to save a backup from the note 8 then, restore it to the note 9 after I also make a backup of the note 9 so, I can restore note 9 backup to note 20 which is due to arrive tomorrow. I made a boo boo though, when I ordered the note 20 from Best Buy, I chose the check box to put the note 8 phone# on the new note 20 but, I should have checked the box to put the phone# of the note 9, on the note 20. Also, I need phone# from note 8, moved to the note 9 confusing I'm sure LOL! I hope, I can get them to move the phone numbers around that way, my wife and I can both keep our same phone numbers. Thanks!

You probably can get it corrected for the phone numbers , but either sim should work if unlocked version or same carriers

The are not unlocked but, are same carriers and both phones are paid off. Also, the note 8 won't be used any more so we will still have just 2 lines.

Lets see if I have this right, the note 20 is coming with sim/phone # I want in the note 9 so, I remove sim card and put it in the note 9 then, take sim from note 9 and put it in the note 20 and that will move the phone# from the note 9 to the note 20? Will I have to do anything else with Verizon for the note 9 or can I then, just use smartswitch and pc to restore note 8 backup to note 9? Also, will all the wife's games be restored also? I assume, I then just turn on the new, note 20 with my active note 9 sim in it like normal on a brand new phone? Will they still, be able to deactivate the note 8 with no sim card in it because, the 8 and the 9 will both have the same phone number if I leave the sim in the 8. Thanks!

Just take the SIM from the 8 and put it in the 9, then it won't matter.
