In my free android game Ahagame - I do not use any game engine.
It's freedom. It's fun. It's all up to me to decide about it all....
But is it a sustainable way forward? I guess maybe not - atleast not if there is a need to produce lots of games in short of time....
I don't have that pressure....since I program only for fun.
But I hope there exists developers out there that can work professionally without game engines?
Do you exist? Please give me some of the reasoning why you don't use game engines - if you exist...
Or should I be realistic and understand that there is no need for everybody to invent the wheel and therefore also start using game engines?
Basically I don't like the idea of being able to produce so much too quick and in a too easy mode. Sounds stupid? But I reason - that if I and everybody start producing in quantity...we do actually loose quality. Am I right? Or do you disagree?
This is just some philosophical thinking....nothing that will stop you from a good nights sleep...
