Directly from Verizon Twitter Support. My question:
@VZWSupport TY for last response. If you are in 4G area and you wish to save on battery life will you be able to switch to 3G with a toggle?

VZ Reponse:
@_iLLusive No. You will only default to 3G when a 4G market is not available. *VS

Sorry for the quotes but have idea how to post the cool screens of twitter post yet :|

how will the phone know not to search for 4g though when your not in an area, but to search for it once your enter one. This doesn't seem that smart..

I never saw a toggle on mine, but there should be a way... It doesn't make sense not to have it.

If 4G forces my battery into uncomfy positions, then this is bad news >:|

lol this is a joke right?

on my razor i could switch from evdo to 1x only if i wanted to. i have a seriously hard time believing you cant disable 4g on a phone like the TB

By default with Android you can shut off 3G network. That should be built into the software as is so that at least 3G/4G together can be shut off.

Panda says it can be done. I'll take his word for it over a Verizon Twitter rep.
Where did anything in my post state it can't be done friend? Simply saying the phone on launch will NOT have it as a stock feature and passing it on because I have seen tons of people ask about it and battery life. Think you're looking bit too much into the information to turn it into what can and can't be done with an app or update down the road with what I said.

If VZW doesn't send out an OTA thing, I'm sure an app or rooted goody will be able to do this.

Hi, if you go to settings, wireless & networks, then mobile network, turn that off and 4G turns off. You also lose 3G data transmission. You can still get voice calls and text messages.

i posted a way to do this in a thread called "you can turn off LTE in phone settings"
or
"need 4g toggle don't live in 4g area" thread

users have confirmed the method i posted does work for them

search for it--it's there.

involves going into phone menu using a dialer code, and switching from an LTE option to a CDMA PRL option

Either a maintenance update will have to provide a fix for this or someone will be creating an app for those who choose not to root. One of the first thing ROM devs will be doing is adding a button/option to toggle this on and off. I wouldn't sweat it too long..

Hi everyone,

I found this app called Phone info
I installed it on the phone last night. No adverse reactions, I've been in forced 3G today but I need more time to observe if it has a real positive reaction on battery usage. Certainly it is not hurting anything so- so far so good. I live about 7 miles from the only 4G area here in KCMO area (the airport) and so turning 4G off - if it saves on battery is a real possibility for me to test out. :D

With only having this phone for 3 days, conditioning the battery will also help. So hope to have a big picture in a few days.
