Why do i keep getting between 1-6 mb's of tombstone files per week on my phone? This has just started a couple of weeks ago, and mostly all i do is browse the interweb . I've been deleting them with root browser, like twice a week.

What causes tombstone files anyway?

I know this subject has gotten to have been discussed before but when i did a forum search for "tombstone files "oddly enough the MiRaGe Rom thread comes up, weird.

Anyway ,if anyone has any thoughts on this, please reply.

Thanks, also it might be good to bring this back up because some members might not know about these files, which could end up taking a lot of precious mb's.

I don't remember that one, but while you're after precious Mb, you might wanna get rid of the thumbnail images generated by gallery, too. they take up a lotta room if you download images or use the camera.

here: Lindus Embedded / Debugging Android core dumps
this is what I found for android tombstones.
the same search mentioned that when apps are installed, they are copied into /data/local which also gobbles up some unnecessary space.

Thanks, yes i knew about thumbnail cache files from the gallery.

I haven't downloaded any apps for awhile, so something else is causing the tombstone files.

EDIT : Seems like any crash files and logcats all get dumped in the data /tombstone files, after more searching, one member with a Samsung moment had a tombstone file 200mb. They said for non-rooted phones, you can download connectbot from the market, for people with low storage space warnings,a lot of people found huge tombstone files, which led to low storage space warning.

I'm one of those that's never heard of these. Thanks for the heads up! My son's phone has had some storage issues, as he just installs everything he sees. Going to look into them on my own phone as well. Thanks badblue1__!

Well i hope it helps people get some space back .

Unfortunately, don't qoute me on this, but i think you have to be rooted to delete the tombstones?

Well this is ridiculous for thumbnails

This thread got me examining my OV's memory usage again--which I haven't done for some time... Anyway, I use the Storage Analyzer app to find which folders are taking up the most memory, and fortunately I didn't find anything unusual or any unnecessarily wasted memory space.

[Edit] I forgot to mention earlier that I also ran the SD Maid app to clean up a bit,.. [/Edit]
