Too many choices... S4 vs HTC One vs LG G2 vs Note 3... (Verizon) .. Can't decide which one!

Sorry I had to get naming right...um...so yeah...

As bad or immature as it sounds...how do you like the polar bear live wallpaper ?

(yes, this is exactly what I was referring to, you have to apply it and scroll across your home screens to see the 3D effect.)

So the correct question was: what do you think of the polar bear live wallpaper ? (My intentions are not to be a pest-you are more than welcome not to answer, sorry if I irritate you)...ok yeah...I feel a little foolish for making this such a goose Chase. :what:

No problem, I just was really confused (which isn't uncommon)... Also, a lot of the time, different carriers allow the different wallpapers & such so I didn't know if maybe there was a difference between the Verizon one I have and any of the others. I think it's pretty neat, but I have a tendency to stay away from live wallpapers because they have, on previous phones, chewed up resources. I have a feeling on this one they probably wouldn't be quite so bad. Both the Polar Bear and the Feather seem pretty cool!

3D Panorama sounded like it could be cool too though ;-) !

Sorry, meant to come back here and give my decision. I chose the G2. When the "Glitch Sale" hit I made the decision to go with the G2, thanks in large part, to the G2 Podcast Jerry and Andrew did. I don't regret it. I LOVE THIS PHONE. Even the LG software, after changing some of the default settings, is actually pretty good. The buttons on the back work for me and help make the 5.2" screen a lot more small-hand friendly. I can reach every corner of it in one hand use thanks to the almsot non-existant bezels. The Knock on is awesome, the screen is gorgeous and the phone is just blisteringly fast! I even like the keyboard. I use the swiping functionality (big fan of SWYPE) rather than swype because I like that it has the number row on it ( Hey, SWYPE, add a number row to larger phones please!). The camera rocks and the sound is really to notch. The radio in it has a LOT stronger signal than my GNEX and I almost never lose reception, even in my apartment where I used to only be able to use my phone by the window. I WHOLE HEARTEDLY recommend this phone to anyone. Even the bloatware can at least be disabled and hidden (would rather it be able to be uninstalled all together but that's a Verizon thing not a G2 thing). My only real complaint is the back of the phone. Slick as ice. I got the Verizon OEM shell/holster and use it without the holster. Makes it much easier to grip and doesn't add any real bulk to it. Kickstand works great in vertical or horizontal mode and helps create a great handle to slide a finger through to help hold it very securely for one handed use. Yeah, LG puts a lot of cheese on it but you can turn most of it off and have a killer interface with some really cool functionality. I typically run Nova Prime but I don't really have any desire to install it right now because this interface is just as versatile.

Hi,

So, you could give a positive feedback of LG's software ... do you have any complaint about this element in your phone?

Thanks

Actually, I like the LG Optimus interface. The aesthetics of the defaults are a little garish but the functionality is really good. They have the flashiest effects and brightest color backgrounds and most annoying ringtones and notification sounds as defaluts which is what has some folks turned off but once you actually get to the functionality of all the LG specific software it's really useful.

1. Knock, Knock: This has completely changed the way I use devices. Once you find the "sweet spot" for the rhythm and make sure to keep it secure (either firmly in hand or secured on a surface) when you "knock" (but most of the time I actually just lightly press it 2 times in a row) it works very reiably. I think most of the problems people are having is that they don't hold it firm and it doesn't register the "knock" well. Once you get used to it, you want to knock everything you pick up.

2. On Screen Volume Sliders: GREAT option. Whenever there is something you need to turn the volume up or down, you can simply pull the volume down from the notifications and adjust it and you can even individually change the volume on "Media", "Ringtones" and "Notifications". This helps with some of the challenges some folks are having with the buttons being on the back. (I'll talk about buttons in a minute)

3. Settings in notification bar: Really convenient to have all the common settings accessible for toggling on and off in one place without having to take up screen space with widgets. Having it built in and customizible is really convenient.

4. Slide Aside: Really cool feature that lets you hide apps to the left side of the screen that you use all the time. I use it for my media players and email.

5. Camera Custom features: The camera it's self is REALLY good, especially when I use the "Intelligent Auto" feature. The video tracking zoom and tracking audio works really well and is fun to play with.

6. Wireless Storage: Makes transferring files REALLY easy and convenient. It's nice to be able to transfer files without hooking up or installing custom wireless software.

7. Homescreen Rotation: It may seem like a little thing but I like it that the built in Homescreen Launcher rotates orientation and isn't stuck in portrait mode.

8. Homescreen Tilt to move: When moving app shortcuts, widgets, whatever, between homescreens you can tilt the phone left or right and the screens will slide until you get where you want.

9. Bluetooth connection: Connecting and Pairing to devices is VERY fast and connections are really clear.

10. Q-Slide: Never use it. Maybe once they get a few more apps for it, I'll be tempted to use it but I really don't use it right now.

11. Keyboard: Really versatile with either a peck or swipe feature that both work really well. Also, having the numbers always present is really handy! and being able to shrink it for onehanded use or split it for landscape use is really nice too.

Buttons on the Back: This isn't software related but it is specific to the G2. On the Verizon version, I found they were REALLY easy to use once I had it in a case. Before, it was a little hard to find the buttons but with them being dropped below the surface of the case, my hand falls to them easily and they are easier to discern the difference between them after a few days.

I'm sure there are other things I've left off but those are the items right off the top of my head. Honestly, everything is so well executed I really like it. I'm normally one who changes out for other launchers but this one is really well put together and some of the features have become so 2nd nature now I don't want to do without them. I really am thrilled with it.

Battery life ?

Using Windows since 1998

This, and....
Being with Verizon, have you been able to talk and use data at the same time? 3g and Lte....?

Sent from my SPH-L710

Battery life is EXCEPTIONAL! I use it to stream radio over 4G at least 4 hours a day and then play audio that's stored on it the rest of the day at work and leave it off the charger and get home and don't put it on the charger until I go to bed and usually still have 40 - 50% left. If I weren't streaming I could probably make it 2 days on one charge. Ever since Verizon launched 4G, all the 4G phones since the T'bolt have been able to talk and surf. Works fine for me. I'm seldom in 3G area so I can't swear that it will work that way on 3G but I haven't ever NOT been able to do both when I tried.

I am on Verizon and I bought the S4 last month at Sam's Club for $99. I thought about waiting for the Note 3, but I find for me the phone too big, but the Note looks like a great phone. I moved from and HTC phone and will agree with others that I don't like Touchwiz, but was simple to use Nova Launcher Prime. I am very happy with the S4 and great that the Verizon version is unlocked for international use. Came in very handy on my last trip to Europe.

For me the choice was pretty clear, I will not buy a phone without an microSD card slot and prefer a removable battery. I don't want to keep my media in the cloud, I don't want to have to download it every time I want to listen music, audio book or watch a movie on my phone. I was just in Europe for 2 weeks on business. I used a Dutch SIM card with no problems, but I did not want to use the data to download content I had already paid for and converted. Also, I find it hard to use the cloud on airplanes.

I know this is not a factor for others, so if you don't care about this then any of the other phones you mentioned will be great choices.

I initially considered the S4 but I just really like the G2 more and more as I did research, I just felt like it would be more of what I was looking for. The battery life is incredible so I don't worry about carrying a 2nd battery (like I had to with my GNEX) and I don't worry about MicroSD since Jelly Bean stopped natively supporting apps to SD and I've still got unlimited data so it's not as critical that I have everything ON the phone. I would like to have one to store media on, but it wasn't make or break. That being said, I did find out about the Meenova MicroSD card reader for Android and I've ordered one to try out. For only $15 shipped, it's worth giving a shot.
Meenova.com, Welcome

I'll let you guys know what I think.

Can anyone more people comment on G2 with a case on it with the back buttons? I thought a case would make it worse.

Case makes it easier to use the back buttons. At least, with the cases that have an opening for the buttons. The opening makes it easier to find the buttons because your fingers fall right on them when you rest your finger there as well as it keeps you from hitting the buttons by accident. As for those, I don't know about how well those work. As for the cases that have button covers, I don't know.

I had signal issues out of the box with my first S4. First let me say I LOVE the phone. The menu structure and camera are the best.

90% of my use of my phone use is in a rural area, so good signal strength is the most import thing.

Verizon has replaced my Galaxy S4 three times in the last 4 months in an attempt to get a phone with good reception. I have sat side by side with other Verizon customers who were using their phones(motorolas) for calls and for data, yet I had NO signal. I could not make a phone call, send a text or use any data. This has become a constant problem with the S4. It has been the exact same on all three S4 phones. Can anything be done to increase reception?

I am trying very hard not to knock the phone. I absolutely love the menu structure. The menu structure and the camera is why I chose the S4. They are the best out there! Unfortunately, I will not be able to use them and I will have to settle for less.

The last straw. I also have a Verizon MiFi hotspot. I was sitting with Verizon friends who were making calls, texting and surfing the internet (they each had 2 bars of signal strength showing). I had ZERO bars of anything. I turned on the MiFi and it had 4 bars of signal. I connected my S4 to the MiFi via wireless and made my calls using Skype & Magic Jack!! Since then I have noticed that my MiFi will have 4-5 bars when the S4 has 1 or none??

I tried real hard to stay with the S4, but its lack of reception forced me to a different manufacturer's device. I am now on my 4th phone in 5 months. I regretfully traded in my S4 for the Motorola Maxx. Now, I have signal in areas that I had none on the S4. I am able to use my phone now, but I do miss the S4 for its features. The menu, camera and just plain basic functionality on the Maxx is no where as nice as on the S4, but I can make calls where I could not with the S4. Besides being able to use the phone, the battery is the only thing the Maxx has the S4 beat at.

If there is nothing that can be done for an S4, it there a different model Samsung with great rural reception that has a similar menu structure and camera?

I have the HTC One, its a great phone and the speakers make a huge difference. I agree with you on the G2 screen. Its a huge screen in small size that makes it stand out from the rest. Its not a good time to buy the HTC One nor the GS4. Why? Cuz its been half their life cycle already so get something that just came out like the Note 3.

Just to throw it in there, I support Moto X and Moto G all the way with their strategy!
