I have this issue currently on a tablet. In googling solutions I see that the problem was posted on devices as far back as 2009 and the only confirmed fix is factory reset. This tells me anyone with malicious intent can just do a dozen bad passwords and all your data is gone. This doesn't seem like a design flaw? In my case my teenage daughter has a 15 page paper written on her transformer which my 5 year old son locked out in this method (not maliciously, he wanted to play her games).

I just assumed I would be able to login to play.google.com with her valid credentials and do a reset of some kind and to my amazement the only solution is STILL a factory reset. That is a pretty substantial design flaw!
