Backup TA for Sony Xperia

Backup TA can backup and restore the TA partition of the device. When you create a backup before unlocking for the first time, then you will be able to restore to full factory state (including a locked bootloader). This means all DRM keys intact, Bravia Engine working in Album and last but not least your warranty when needed :highfive:.

READ: At the bottom of this post is the FAQ. Here you will find answers on the most asked questions. Read them before posting any question in this thread. When you post a question which is already answered in the FAQ, I will ignore you and smile :D.
Also when you want my support, tell me which device and version of Backup TA you're using and attach the complete output. I can not help you without this and besides it's really not so much to ask in return, now is it? No effort without effort.

This tool only works under Windows. Mac and Linux will not be supported. Using this tool is at your own risk.

FAQ
Q: Is my device supported?
A: Look at the supported devices list above this FAQ. When it is not listed, try to make a backup it will tell you if your device is supported.

Q: Do I need root for this?
A: Yes, you do need root for this to work.

Q: Can I use someone else's backup?
A: No, this will hard-brick your device.

Q: Does it bring back my DRM keys when I already unlocked my device?
A: Not without a backup of the TA before it was ever unlocked.

Q: Can I restore my TA while running a non-stock ROM or kernel?
A: Yes, but it will soft-brick your device and you need Sony PC Companion or Flashtool to fix it by flashing stock firmware. Best is to first return to a complete stock ROM and kernel before restoring the TA.

Q: Will a restore relock the bootloader?
A: Yes, it will relock the bootloader like it was never unlocked.

Q: What is 'restore dry-run'?
A: When you do a dry-run restore it will performs a regular restore with the exception that it will not write anything to your device. This is helpful to test a backup before restoring and very advisable.

I'm confused... in order to be able to restore to full factory state I need to create the backup before unlocking for the first time, and according to the FAQ it requires to phone to be rooted, but in order to root the phone I need to unlock the bootloader...

My phone is Z3 Compact (not in the supported models list) - can I use this program to backup the TA partition for this phone?

I think of rooting my phone, not to install CM, but just to delete some junk like Google+, Bloatware in general, and for installing XPosed Framework and use some root apps for privacy protection, like AFWall+. That means I want to do most of the things everybody do, except change the firmware, since I like some of the Sony apps.
The questions are:
1. Do I need to unlock the boot partition in order to do that?
2. Is there anything, beside installing a personalized firmware, that can only be done after unlocking the boot partition?
3. If I accept OTA updates from Sony, will I have to re-root the phone again?
4. If I unlock the boot but keep sony original firmware, will I risk my phone in accepting OTA updates?
5. I've read about limitations in rooting and/or unlocking the boot according to the firmware version: I got an Xperia Z Ultra: should I update it to kit kat before or after rooting? Same question for unlocking.
