Top bezel two 'marks'

On the top bezel of the tag s2 9.7 I have noticed two sections of the silvered chamfered edge that has no silver finish, they are regular spaces about 30mm in from the sie edges. They almost look like areas for notification lights or similar, just curious. Any ideas?

Mine does NOT have any such marks -- it sounds like you got factory blemished tablets.

Hehe, just kidding. ;-)

These marks appeared on my Tab S2 after a couple of days. The chrome was worn off by being pulled in and out of a pouch. They look like two small windows.

I expect they were not caused by the pouch, I have had two devices and they existed on both, new out the box.

My S2 8.0 has these ~2cm length. They are too symmetrical to be blemishes, tho not sure of the purpose.

They ARE part of the design, for whatever reason. No need to frisbee your new tablet out the window.

I recently purchased a Galaxy S2 9.7, and almost immediately noticed these spots on the bezel. I got so curious about them I just wrote Samsung's customer support. If I get a helpful response I will post back. There were two ideas I had as to their nature. They look like they could be small LEDs (a feature otherwise missing from the S2), but if so they do not function. They could be light sensors (though covering them up did not cause the screen to dim or anything like that, so if they are light sensors, they act in concert with the cameras). And someone above pointed out they could be antennae, but I think this is less likely. The user guide points to the right or left edge for the GPS antenna, not the top, and I haven't seen a newly released device in years that requires an antenna to be physically exposed like these "marks" are.

Samsung's unhelpful response to my query:

"Thank you for getting back to us. After reviewing your e-mail and the pictures attached, I see that you would like to know purpose of the rims(orange circles) on your Samsung tablet. It is the standard hardware design of the tablet and it is designed depending on the internal parts and they are not user applicable."

Hmm...

I have given up on asking Samsung anything. They no longer have valid answers to much of anything I ask. You get a "form" response which never has anything to do with what you're asking, whether an android or a TV or whatever. I just Google or use Xda. I seem to remember reading on Xda that they are antennas, and tried to find the post but didn't.

rims(orange circles)

It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Thanks to all for the comments, I suspect the only way we will know what they are is when any teardown videos start to appear. I sort of expect that at some point they will use the frame for a version that has notification lights. If I find anything I will post it here.

Being that they look so much like the antenna separation marks on cell phones and that this tablet has a version the LTE version that also has a phone in it it is my belief that it is an antenna separator mark.

I wondered about those too. Mine were there from the beginning. Mine is WiFi only so I assume they're from reception.
